TheBeast.exe crashes

so im trying to bake the lightmap but everytime i click bake the lightmapper crashes instantly and i get the usual Thebeast.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close crap. whats wrong, and how do i fix it?

come on guys i need this to work… help me out here

never seen that

sure DEP has the stuff in the exclusion, antivirus guard has the unity install and your project folder on the exclusion, uac is configured correspondingly etc?

Hey, i don’t know if it has something to do, but i need to turn off Avast (my antivirus) in order to run Unity properly.

Does it always crash on your machine? Or is it a specific scene it crashes on? What’s your OS?

WinXp Sp3

i tried doing it with avast disabled and on another scene but it doesnt work. the status bar at the bottom says Beast error : 11: job execution failure all of the lightmap settngs are on default also if that helps.

wow you guys are absolutly no help at all. smh…

I encountered the same obstacle, seems like forum members are more interesed in Unity vs Udk and move the ball kinda discussions:o

has nothing to do with being interested but its hard to help if we don’t see it.

with win xp there is a good chance you just run out of RAM at worst if the scene is moderately complex or you “overdo” the texel density or ray settings

I get the same error, using winXP SP3, go to bake and instantly get the windows error message:
thebeast.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AppName: thebeast.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: thebeast.exe
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00617d65

The Unity IDE has the error message:
Beast error: 11: Job Execution Failure

The console has this in the very bottom:
Error in file C:/BuildAgent/Work/6bc5f79e0a4296d6/Editor/Mono/LightmapEditor/LightmapEditor.cs at line: 781

Any ideas whats wrong, please try not to ‘guess’ things like out of memory or video drivers need reinstalling.

Thanks

Complaining about people not responding and asking us not to guess really don’t work well together. If we’re not seeing the problem on our machine then all we can do is guess.

What would be more helpful would be for everyone who is experiencing the issue to post all the information they can about their setup so we can see if they have anything in common that might be causing a problem. To start with:

Machine specs
OS
Antivirus software
If Unity is being run by a user or administrator account
Anything else you can think of

Could be many things…

Does the bake complete? as in is the ‘bake bar’ filled when you get the error?

Disable ALL of your sleep options, so no HDD sleep and stuff after 4 hours or even a screensaver

Default texels is extremely high, try 1 or 2

Make sure you’ve got atleast 2GB of ram. (64 recommended ;))

No additional errors in the console (like specific objects)?

BTW i’ve had the same problem,

OS winXP 64 (doesn’t matter, tried win7 to)
Antivirus NOD32 (could be relevant…)
Is there a UAC in winXP? however tried both.

Disabling background services and power options worked for me, however when i up the quality it’s always fingers crossed… I got scared of baking
