Theft? I need your advise.

Several days ago one girl asked me for buying many things directly from me. He got my trust and discount almost 50% because she bought really much.

But just after she downloaded all she just disappeared. During 3 days I sent letters to her but got no answer. She even didn’t sent me message after she downloaded files from File Factory which as I asked her to do. Because this place not very safety to keep sensitive things in. I saw she downloaded it.

I know her name, her Facebook page, and some more dilates. I promised until tomorrow don’t make thing which can harm her.

But I need your advise. Is here any way or instruments to take care on such cases?
Do you have similar bad experience?
What you did or what you will do if such case.

I know it’s a little too late now, but a good advice would have been: “don’t allow her to download any file until she has made the payment”. When I receive a new project, I make very clear my terms before writing the first line of code:

  • I ask for an up-front payment for a half of the total cost of the project. I won’t start working in the project until I receive this payment.

  • When the project is finished, I upload a web-build (or equivalent) so the customer can see that the work is done.

  • I will ask for the rest of the money before sending a download link. I won’t send the download link until I receive the rest of the money.

If the project is really long, the number of payments can be negotiated (for example: 5 monthly payments), but I’ve never had the same problem than you because the customer doesn’t receive any useful file until I have received the payment. On the other hand, the customer feels safe because (as I upload a web-build) he can see the job is done before making the final payment.

By the way, I think the “Gossips” subforum would be more appropriated for this thread because it isn’t related to the Asset Store and you aren’t offering any Asset here.
