I’m Jake, I’ve been coding for a few years and only just decided to step it up a little and play with making a Video Game. I am a big fan of the Slender series and this is inspired by it, but since it’s not really “Slender” I figured I’d have a go at making my own. So I proudly introduce you to theOperator. Based off of the Marble Hornets “The Operator”, I’ve spent a while planning this before I created it.
Game Details
The map is rather big, at a 512x512 size it’s a maze to get lost in.
The EnemyAI is pretty random, instead of spawning behind you he will spawn anywhere. This can seriously be creepy.
The lightning was an accident, I was rotating the torch and it got stuck in a direction that seemed to disorientate the player a little.
In order to complete the game you have to find the 8 symbols, I will upgrade this to 27 once I finish a few more tweaks.
Player can now die if you get too close to the Operator.
I’m planning on upgrading a lot of the core components and using this as a template to create new maps to work with. I’m updating the game everyday and constantly fixing bugs and trying to add new features. It’s not a full game with a story or quests, it’s meant to be a small game that’s portable and can be played for fun. With the random possibility of where the Operator will spawn it’s constantly a new adventure. The game may feature similarities with Slender but it was based off of that game. I am adding my own features soon, such as a better physics layout for the player and the option to move/break objects.
I’m also taking all advice/suggestions from people who have played and tested, a few of them have said it needs more work but every one has said it is pretty creepy. So if you like horror games or thriller movies, please test it out and tell me what you think. Leave a comment below with some feedback, good or bad.

Hmm, Seems Interesting but is that really all your adding a new bigger map and a random spawn ( which i admit will be scary ) Think about what else you can add like creepier music or something.
The music is different to the Slender games, I’ve used a soundtrack from YouTube that an indie producer created and gave me permission to use. I want to keep the game similar to the 8 pages game, it was pretty much perfect but it needed more things to make it better. This is still in a beta phase at the moment but once I’ve got a few of the bugs ironed out I’m going to keep working on it and turn it into a game of its own.
Oh, I know. I said in the first post though It’s inspired by Slender. It’s not exactly the same though, the reason it’s heavily wooded at the moment is because I’m focusing on the code and getting bugs fixed before actually creating a map of some kind. The symbols are needed as well since it’s based on the Operator.
Well most games today are alike any way, there isn’t really a genre that hasn’t been done yet. But either way I don’t mind, I’m enjoying making this and like you said I’m learning from it.
okay so theres a few things i should give you tips on. the over all scale of the map and house even the bed is pretty bad also your house is floating man. second the music is too over powering it got quite irritating pretty quickly. you should make the terrain a little bigger and add variation to the trees
The models currently used (House, Bed, Firewood, TreeStumps, Trees, Torch) are place holders. Once I am done with the coding I’ll be working on the cosmetics, the sounds are also place holders. I’m a one man team and I’m doing the game one step at a time. The music that’s in use currently is a mixture of various things, I was only using it because I was having a problem with multiple sounds playing simultaneously. Besides that, the terrain is staying the size it currently is I don’t wish it to be any bigger and it doesn’t really need to be.
That said, a floating house is new to me… It’s working fine on my machine and my friends, so I’m not entirely sure what to say to you there. Thanks for the feedback though.
alright, well i dont even know where to find the runes or even if its in the map yet but i’ve been walking for about 2 sound loops on your music and once you get used to it its not frightening plus i didn’t see the AI anywhere
You might have a corrupted download then? There is a Symbol right near where you start and a few people who have tested for me have found the first 4 to 6 fairly quick.
I’ll upload one either to my website or a filehost later on, I’m currently re-designing the map and adding some more features like fences/grass/trees/landmarks.
EDIT: Do you have any suggestions for objects to place in the forest level? So far I have a cabin and a camp fire. I’ve added a lot more tree prefabs and made some dusty paths, grass and broken fences.
