Thanks I’ll pass that to our dev and designer. Be aware some of the fonts/colors contrasts are to meet accessibility standards so that has to pass our third party tests before we can change them.
The top nav is a unity asset so we can’t change it.
One thing non visited posts should be bolded ( colours are so subjective some like some don’t), are they not?
I have a question if we enabled you to add your own themes would that help. And have an area to show them so others could use them ( think add ons) you would need to keep them updated as we don’t actually control the base code)
yes, i think this would be ideal solution for the styles (css)!
Browser plugin would be still needed to inject custom components into page, like proper dates and times, usernames, post counts, quick previews to topics…etc. but nice if main style can be customized in the forum itself.
infinite scroll “helper” thing on the right is awful
searching pages is awful
lots of wasted space all over the place
replying/quotes are confusing
can’t tell who is replying to who by just scrolling
doesn’t actually auto quote when replying
“likes”/“dislikes” system is confusing and unnecessary
categories / subforums distinction is confusing / awful
mobile is now borderline unusable (i used to browse/reply from my phone on the old forum when out and about, things load so slowly on this new forum i just don’t bother now).
in general, the new forums are very slow to load, compared to the old forums. look at this graph: Why does it take almost 4 seconds for content to appear? it’s nuts
I’m sure they can see that the numbers for how many people are no longer engaging with the awful new ‘Discussions’ instead of the old forum tells all, but these fools will keep patting themselves on the back while Unity continues to crumble more and more.
My usage/viewing of these forums has gone from daily to ZERO. Thank you Unity team for helping me break the cycle of addiction and not waste my time on your forums.
It’s horrible - I attempted to post a question, the next page lists all unread topics. The previous forum worked so well, this just feels so clunky and unnecessarily complex. I found the changes last month and I just don’t want to come here again - I used to check here everyday, but now it just doesn’t cater for what I do - checking problems and doing my best to reply to them and trying to find answers to my own problems.
I’ve been here since 2010 when I started using Unity, I can’t make sense of what is going on here and probably won’t come back.
It’s just so complicated.
I’m not a fan, and agree the empty space and crammed feeling is overwhelming. Thankfully I do not use the forums much anymore. Maybe I’m wrong, but it just want the information when I come, and it was real easy to get in the past, now it’s a mess.
I truly wonder what sort of impact changing the forums had on their SEO ranking when trying to copy over things. I imagine them having 10’s of thousands of SERP errors completely obliterating their website, couple that in with all the Unity hate were having a wonderful year.
I say don’t change what isn’t broken and keep on listening to your customers. I heard pipeline changes, and fees are gone. Fantastic news. One more to go!
