Things we need to know about Unity

Hi, everyone! This thread is going to cover a thing or 2 about Unity. It can make new or old Unity users understand things more clear. I have a few questions that I want to know clearly.

1 - When we build game for pc platform, is the game file secure? Is there a way to strengthen the security so that it can’t be hackable? I’m so blur about this one.

2 - For Unity license, I know that a license is for a person only. Is there any exception? Cuz sharing is somehow better than cracking (pirate).

Talking about piracy, I read an article on gamasutra about Unity piracy, it seems like there are quite a big number of pirating. So all unity users should be awared that we are being watched.

Name an offline game that hasn’t been pirated. … You can’t. There aren’t any. Even the online ones sometimes get pirated, if someone’s up to the task of writing the backend server from scratch.

There’s no point in pointing out that Unity-based games get pirated when every game gets pirated.

Unity has built-in google analytics, you can turn them off.

Why do you need to share when there is free?

They talked about Unity piracy mainly in Asia, which is a no-brainer, since 1500$ for most people in most asian countries is a huge amount of money. They also say that the asset store sales in Asia sort of make up for the “loses” .

I think piracy is the main reason Unity gave indie free, it was already nearly impossible to enforce anything on crackers, so why bother with them at all? Instead give a free version and essentially invest in them to finally buy Unity Pro for support and legitimacy issues. This tactic has also worked for massive corps like Microsoft, Autodesk and more.

Rabbit Proof Firewall.

Oh!!! Look like almost every game is pirated. I thought Unity has a secure way to protect the content. But it’s not.

About sharing license, I know that Unity has a free version (so why bother with sharing) . What about sharing iOs license? For example, 2 brothers bought a license. So can they share it with each other? I know most of you would say ‘no’. But isn’t that better than let people pirate the software?

No game, ever, has a secure way to protect the content. It’s technically impossible.

The license says no. Buying one copy and sharing with another person is better than not buying any copies, for sure, however it’s still a violation of the license and not as good as buying two copies. I have to point out the disparity between wanting your stuff to be unhackable, and yet apparently not having a problem with sharing Unity. You don’t see that’s a bit hypocritical?

Oh! I see! I want to talk a little bit more about sharing license. If 2 people share license, when they are busted, what will happen to them? If I recall cor rectly, they have to delete the stuff that they have been working on. Is that correct?

You may as well email Unity now telling them your sharing intentions.

well, I was just wondering, that’s all. I don’t mean to let that happen. Cuz It would against the rule.
