I was curious to see this forum supports avif, an amazing format that needs to be more common. But i wanted to see if it worked for HDR images.
Based on the preview it doesn’t, but if so why? Maybe it’s an issue in the conversion of images?
This website showed me the potential of HDR images online, it would be great if Unity forums supported it properly!
Oh i see the problem it converts the avif to jpeg, thats a shame 
It actually converts to a worse format lmao.
For a comparison of how the image uploads to how it should look check this.
Click the image to toggle between what unity discussions does vs how it should look. It should be apparent even on an SDR display but ideally an HDR display should be used.
in either case it shouldn’t be converted to jpeg. if anything maybe do a more compressed avif, the avif i uploaded was 16mb which I can see is high, but i’m sure it could be much smaller if compressed further.
You can download the original avif here on dropbox for experimenting. The one i uploaded to the slowpoke site had to be an HDR png which is much larger.
