"Thunder Island" released (dirt racing game)

Hey Everyone,

IT’S NOW FREE!!!

We’re excited to announce to the Unity community that our new dirt racing game “Thunder Island” has officially been released online.

“Thunder Island” is a different type of racing game and here’s how it works. After each 3-lap race your score is uploaded to the website’s database and racers from all over the world can view their laps times on the leader board page. You’re also scored on best jump height, distance, and air time. At the end of each tournament, prizes are awarded to the racer with the best lap time. Our goal is to give away at least $1,000 in prizes each month (based on our sponsors). Here are some screenshots:

We would appreciate any feedback!

Downloading now. It looks awesome! Can’t wait to try it.

Looking very good

I’m downloading the demo too!

Wow, looks great! And that’s an interesting twist on the game, throwing in the tournaments like that.

WOW + 1!

It does look great indeed, very well done… can’t wait to play this! Good Stuff.

Regards,
Matt.

Looking forward to the Mac version. My only critique based on the screenshots on your site is that the settings screen is bafflingly primitive compared to everything else. Granted it’s just a settings screen, but I think it still should look nice and be pleasant to use, and especially as a Unity user I think “Hmm, thrown together with the default Unity GUI in 2 minutes”. Also I’d suggest “cancel”, which is simpler and less confusing compared to “don’t save and exit”. Anyway it looks great overall aside from that.

+1 for the mac version.

Mind telling a little bit about the security involved, or atleast how much work that has been.
I imagine it must be a major concern when giving away prices.

No Mac version? Ack!

Looks good, so when the Mac version comes out I might get to play it

@psychicparrot…The only reason we haven’t published the Mac version is because we don’t have a Mac to test with. If you want to Beta test for us then I can get you (or anyone else who has a Mac) a Mac compiled version. Just let me know.

@Yorick…As for security, we have so much encryption in the code that I would be impressed if anyone could hack our game or server scripts. Even if you do we know if the scores were uploaded through the game or through a hack. But if you want to try and hack the game then go for it!

@Eric5h5…thanks for the feedback. My programmer is Chinese so his English is not perfect and that’s why the buttons say that but I will put that in my “to-do” list for the next release. And the setting’s screen is boring looking because we didn’t have time to use artwork so we had to use the Unity GUI.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!!

Mark Barry
