Tick-Tock

Well hello everyone!

There has been a huge amount of horror games being made, such as the widely popular “Slender” game. I want to do something apart from that. Something new and fresh. So I present you, my first indie horror game, and overall game, Tick-Tock. A game where you are placed into a mysterious world. A place in which you can never escape.

Storyline:

Bryan, a 20 years old man, experiences a life filled with horror and fear. His entire family died. Such as his parents, and siblings. In order for him to forget about life, he became addicted to alcohol and drugs. But that didn’t help. It made his situation worse. One day in the bar, he got even more intoxicated than usual. He left to his car at midnight, barely in control of his body. He drove on, forgetting where he was. Then he collided with another car in the darkness. Resulting a horrible accident and injury. The paramedics rushed him into the hospital, where he was left lying on the bed. The doctors were confused. There was no sign of life inside Bryan. They thought he wouldn’t survive. Truth is, his brain left his body in a dream-state. His brain was gone in the outside world. But live inside his imagination. He is living in his own dream. Or nightmare. Everything he feared and hated, is imprisoned with him. His only goal is to survive his own nightmare. The clock is ticking.

Looks interesting, I guess. Any more details on gameplay?

Yes sir! The game is still in it’s early age, but gameplay details is on it’s way. The story has been decided, and a website is on the works for more detailed information. But I will be posting a video which shows the game’s gameplay and in-game terrain.

Sweet, I will definitely be paying attention.

I think you’ll find my game is even scarier - see attached!

(Seriously, making it darker does not make it scarier. Good lighting is an art form, colours and bright areas do not make things less scary. All you’ve done here is remove all focal points and ended up with a picture that’s almost entirely black.)

Haha, good point! You see, the game just started a few days ago. So not much is done. However, some major things will be added to enhance the game’s visual experience. Such as adding a beam of light between the trees so it gives you a more ‘ambient’ feel. Point is, there will be more lighting as the game develops. I am currently focused on the actual gameplay experience.

More content will be posted soon!

Still haven’t said what the story is going to be… it’s looking eerily like slender, I hope there is truly distinguishing characteristics.

Now isn’t that much better? I can actually see your art and game. Huzzah!

Yes! The story! It is still in the works. However, most of the story is pretty much official. For now, all I can say is it is far more complex than a man with no face chasing kids around a forest. Story details will be released soon.

Finally! The official storyline has been adding onto the thread. Read up!

I like it. Much more unique than I was expecting. I think a cutscene at the beginning setting it all up would be brilliant.

Also, you should have some really weird things come up, beings that it’s a dream!

Yeah, a cinematic intro has been planned for the beginning of the game. The main part I am most interested in is the gameplay and objectives. The terrain is somewhat done. There are swamps, random places such as camps, all scattered around an ‘island’ in which you’re in. Pictures will come up soon.

And continuing on with your weird things idea, I like it. There will be LOTS of unnatural things in this game. That’s part of what forms fear

The story sounds pretty cool, it reminds me of Dream.

A name for the team has been decided.

Screenshots and a trailer will be released soon.

The game is undergoing a HUGE update. The entire terrain/map will be completely remade. Barely anything in the game will be realistic. Everything will look more ‘dreamy’. So we’re taking out the entire forest to make something better.

Just a quick vote, would anyone like to see any biomes other than a forest? (desert, swamps, etc)

I’d do all of the above. The weirder, the better.

Q&A

Q: What monsters will be expected in the game? Will it be like Slender?

A: The game is being worked hard on to not be another Slender. So there will NOT be a scary man with no face chasing you. However, there WILL be an element in the game (not monster) called The Void. This is more of a black sustance that forms in random locations on the map. Once it ‘sees’ you, it will be attracted to you and chase you.

Q: How will this game be different from other horror releases?

A: Well, Tick-Tock is based more on a strong story and intense situations. Just imagine yourself in a dream. A nightmare perhaps. Anything can happen. So we want to simulate that. As the player, you make your own decision. This is not a game where you collect simple things. It’s a game that puts you in a dream and keeps you in that dream until you finish. (or die!)

Q: Any in-game system(s) that will be revealed?

A: Yes! First off, the clock system. Or, the Ticking Clock as I call it. In the game, your main objective is to collect about 15 items that represent Bryan’s life. His happy times. When you collect the first object, you’re introduced to a ‘clock’ that counts down. Every item you collect will boost this time up. However, when it drops down to a serious state, the AI will gain aggresiveness and the music itself will become scarier.

Q: How big will the map (world) be?

A: I would say medium. Not large, nor small. I want don’t want the player getting lost in the desert part of the game!

Q: Any reveals on the biomes for the game?

A: Yes. There will be about…four biomes in total for the game. Desert, Swamp, Forest, and the winter plains.

Q: How will these biomes enhance the player’s experience?

A: At first, Tick-Tock was meant to be a game where you roam around a forest. But there are too many horror games like that. So we are making ‘biomes’. At first, you’re in a forest, and then you suddenly walk on sand. Into the desert. I want the game to have variety. Not the same thing you always see.

Q: When is the game expected to release?

A: Somewhere around the Fall of next year. Our goal is to make the game completely complex, so it will take time.

Q: Last question, will there be a website for the game?

A: Yes! There will be! The site is currently undergoing development. But I will be posting the site URL once it’s up and running.

If you want to ask a question, I will answer em! PM me or e-mail me at giorosa18@gmail.com.

I present you guys with a Pre-Pre Beta of the game. Which means…the game isn’t done. We managed to put a few things together. Such as the forest and some details. But the biomes (such as desert) has not been implemented in the game. This is just to get a quick view of the environment. Which will be improved.

You should consider getting a web server to host your files on, especially if you plan on making this game pretty legit. I pay $10 a month for mine and they have really good speeds and unmetered everything.

EDIT: Just started it up. You need to adjust how the GUI is generated. Unless I play on 1024x768 windowed, the buttons don’t work on the main menu. Also, the draw distance needs cranked wayyyy up on fantastic. I could barely see 10ft in front of me on the highest setting. Other than that, it looks like it’s coming along nicely. Is it going to be only 1st person, or will there be 3rd?
