Tips for being a good game artist

Hi everyone,
I’m an artist, and I’m still learning, but I wanted to know what is involved in being a “professional” artist/game artist? I’m pretty good with art, but I’m looking into a career as an artist, and I’d like some ideas and tips. Can some professional artists here tell me what’s necessary in your opinion? Also, can you give me some tips on how you work, and how your workflow is, etc?
FYI: I’m doing mostly stuff like concept art, or traditional painting and drawing and also some 3d stuff with Blender.
If you want to see some of my work, I’ll have to see what i can give you, because the stuff I have been doing recently(concept art) is kind of secret(until the game it is for is announced), and the stuff I did before that doesn’t look too good.
Thanks!

Just make sure to get inspiration and get the basics down like figure drawing and perspective.

I personally started looking at other artists websites and portfolios to learn the trade. Like this one

There’s alot more work than just drawing, modeling, then game engine as I found out. It’s a strict discipline of counting polygons, retopology, uv mapping and so much more…

Have a look at these…

As for workflow I use Zbrush for sculpting, 3dcoat for retopology,uv maps, poly painting and blender to animate…there’s many ways to skin a cat you just need to find your way, and no I’m not a professional artist :).

Setting a price on your work.

Watch Feng Zhu’s tutorials. This guy is phenomenal. He does concept art for games and movies. If you can afford it, go to his school of design
