The game is called TMP which stands for Ten Million Predators. (not to be confused with predators from the movie).
At the beginning of the game all that is a available to you is a starting fund and three empty tables. You have just enough money to upgrade one of them. Your options are: Crafting, Research and Weapons workbenches.
In the mean time the predators are closing in from every side of the map…
You can use the crafting table to craft barricades and fences, watchtowers and catapults (etc). From the research table you can learn new technologies such as metalworking, gunpowder and artificial intelligence, allowing you to craft new items eventually unlocking sentry guns, air support etc. Finally the weapons table allows you to craft weapons of your own, swords, bows, machine guns, rocket launchers etc. (each requiring their relavent technologies from the research table).
The ultimate goal in this game is to kill all 10,000,000 predators before they kill you, or destroy the something. (the something is just an object that hasn’t been decided yet, not an official title )
So to recap, you work you way from medieval times to the future by learning new technologies which allow you to craft new weapons and machines to fight off the attackers with.
The tower defence element is when you access the crafting bench and are able to place catapults and archery towers etc, the fps part is still entirely to come.
What I think from the little information provided… Brilliant, good idea, brilliant idea, new, never seen it before, GREAT concept, just need the sweat equity now I do tend to repeat myself and then also you know how people sometimes think out loud? I type out loud… Kind of weird but hey… Keep it up!!! Honestly think this is a great idea you have and you must just develop it, Orcs must die is similar but it was 3rd person, I prefer 1st just because I’m a fps junkie, NEED MEH FIX!
And there you have my 10cents, use wisely XP I’m going to stfu now…
I was born in Cape Town btw, Cape Agulus ek se, van die kaap stad af XD
Haha thanks, glad you like the idea. I’ll try post more information on how the game will work when I have some new model or something to show off.
Dis lekker om 'n bietjie afrikaans te sien
A watchtower. The idea at the moment for these is that (apart from being able to climb up and pick enemies off yourself) you will be able to assign mercenaries (who you will have to pay a salary) as either scouts or archers/snipers (depending on technological stage). With scouts assigned you will receive the following benefits: pressing ‘m’ will bring up a map of the area, highlighting all predators in red, their positions updating more frequently based on number of scouts, and secondly, all your mercenary controlled machines of war will be able to locate and attack enemies faster.
By the way I have edited the first post to contain more general information about the game.
Looks really interesting One thing though, I would switch the theme to a sci-fi one. Put him on an asteroid or something and make everything techy…just seems like it would fit the gameplay and theme way better.
Thanks IvoryOasis.
When you start to unlock future technologies then the theme will be sci-fi-ish I guess
As for putting the guy on a little asteroid, I don’t know haha, I haven’t really thought about where the game is going to take place yet, but that’s certainly an interesting idea.
Finished the weapons bench today. From this you will be able to craft weapons to carry yourself. These will begin as slingshots, bows and arrows, swords and end as futuristic firearms.
Its been a busy past few days, but I’ve continued work on my custom fps controller, adding the ability to climb ladders. I’ve also started work on a ballista: (finished model and rig, just working on texturing now)
Oh wow, this is amazing and a twist to the hole “tower defence” game type when i first read “tower defence/ first person shooter game” i was thinking like sanctum but this is much more amazing mechanics in the game, this is going to be one awesome game when it comes out and can’t wait. Keep up the amazing work.
Well I believe (from what I’ve seen) that most of it is in the building strategy part of this game. Although it looks more like a survival first person atmosphere, I can see it blooming after a while of development
Thanks a lot ShizumiNelo, that’s very encouraging!
Thanks Ethaninja I’m glad you like the models
I use a lot of images from cgtextures.com for my texturing and then I edit those to create the effect I want. Every now and again I do some handpainting, but I’m not very good at it
For interests sake, heres the texture map for the ballista:
