Hope you are doing well, guys and girls.
Stuff that happened
Earthquake>Tsunami>Powerplant explosion>Volcano eruption
That’s very unlucky
Obviously it’s because Japan made a pact with the Devil.
I do hope Japan makes a full recovery; I like them.
Over 10k people died so far.
big shake but still here, now the power plant issue ( 200km from where i am living )… is the not funny after quake part ( still shaking by the way few time a day but way less important…this make you start to have some paranoia from an imminent second round…XD ).
Thank you.
Although,I and my family aren’t suffered from the earthquake and tsunami.
@giyomu : vraiment content de te revoir
@yoshino : nice to read ! Best wishes to you and your family.
Iirc there’s something called Bath’s law which states the largest aftershock is usually a magnitude less on the richter scale than the strength of the main displacement. Essentially, the plates settling with the new stress configuration.
If that’s true, you guys might get like a 7.8 quake anytime now, and another tsunami.
I hope my memory is faulty, I shudder to think what that means to the multiple meltdowns in progress. Think large swaths of Japanese coastline rendered as barren as the area surrounding Chernobyl.
You need to summon Godzilla to swallow the reactor cores. Even if he’s not available, you folks are still in my prayers.
well the big one is estimated at 9.0, also japan is sitting on 4 plate actually, I usually get some shake from quake coming form nagano / niigata, as I am talking another one seem have trigger another tsunami…XD…2012 apocalypse will come sooner for japan , not easy to code between 2 quake ^^
well joke apart yeah this is kinda stressful situation
Best wishes to all Japaneses friends from Montreal Canada.
Yeah this event is very sad… I do not understand why all these strings of earthquakes are happening… First Chili, then Christchurch, NZ, now Japan… where will this earthquake strike next?
Hey Giyomu, j’espère que tout va bien
Ca me fait vraiment chier de voir tout ce désastre et de rien pouvoir faire …
Prenez soin de vous, au Japon.
I wish you all the best recovery. Sincerely;
Benjamin
Best wishes to all those in Japan and those with both family and friends affected by this situation.
I still think we should send every ship, ever plane, everything we can over to Japan and evacuate the island to the mainland ASAP.
I have a very bad feeling about this.
A tragic event. Best wishes to eveyone caught up in it.
Those would be : China, Korea and Russia. Slim chances there.
I wish I could do more than wish them luck…
Free room and board for a Japanese person brave enough to take a holiday in South Africa?
There’s quite a few people in Japan.
But yeah, I have a bad feeling too. Especially after the latest news that they’ve now increased the evacuation radius by another 6 miles then announced that radiation around the plant are now at ‘dangerous biological levels.’
It’s starting to head more towards Chernobyl x3 than Three Mile Island x3.
I read somewhere, many years ago, that the rate of earthquakes in Japan means that there is a 100% chance of experiencing an event like this during each generation.
I also read that probably the most amazing thing about Japan as a nation, is that they are constantly knocked down and each and every time they rise from the ashes and rebuild their cities bigger and better than it was before. Just like a phoenix is becomes jaw droppingly beautiful, dies and is reborn to raise to even greater heights.
That ability was one of the things about Japan that made me think of Japanese as superheroes. Their legend was mythical to my mind. I knew that if this story proved true then it would mean that I too, one day, would see Japan fall and rise back up again and my favorite country would surpass themselves in everything I love about them… it all sounded so dramatic, so romantic, so legendary… yet, all this time, I knew that for this to happen, it would need to be preceded by a tragedy like this…
I continually hoped for Japan to rise to even better heights but continued to hope that the legend was false… it wasn’t. In the years to come Japan will be stronger and better than ever before and reclaim their position in the top of the world’s markets… but for all my love for the country and it’s people, the loss of so many lives is just incomprehensible to my mind…
I am trying to see the silver lining in this event (cause as you know, ‘there is always a silver lining’… so they say) by seeing this as the rebirth of the nation of superheroes… but I just don’t think it possible to justify the loss… I have a very vivid imagination and watch a lot of movies so I can clearly see extracts from various movies playing in my mind… the faces of helpless, screaming people, visions of lifeless bodies floating to the water surface… other stuff… then to multiply that with the sheer numbers and factoring in real life… whenever I see people sharing their sympathies in the “You are in our prayers”-style, it just p*sses me off. I know they are trying to express sympathy but I keep thinking: “Stuff your sympathy and go help them”. I know it is too late for those who are already dead, but I honestly wish the entire world would flock to Japan and open up shelters, send and hand out food/ clothing/ tents for those who have no more homes… be a shoulder to cry on for those who have lost loved ones… Mentioning them when speaking to your roof is of no real use! Unfortunately I don’t have even enough cash to pay my bills so I cannot afford a plane ticket to get there… Once I get there, the only thing I am remotely good at is programming so that is of 0% use to them right now, but good grief… what I wouldn’t give to be able to be there right now and just help out in any way I can… surely I can serve soup… surely I could hand out blankets… Surely I could hold a hand or sit there and make my shoulder available… Small stuff that would mean a lot to one or two people who needs it… If only the entire world felt as I do…
Our country is sending over support, though. A MAXimum of 50 people… They are limiting the support to a MAXimum of 50 people! The bastards! I wanted to volunteer but they are only sending over people who can actually help (police, firemen, dog handlers and their dogs… and press!!!) No space for me… If anyone is willing to sponsor me a plane ticket… ??? Know of any missions or something where I could go help out?
Quietus’s prediction of another tsunami is causing me to literally feel scared for Japan. Honestly, whenever I think of a second tsunami I can literally feel my body turn cold. Fortunately, the news reports I read today say there is no chance of this turning into another Chernobyl so that is at least one good thing… I am wondering though, evacuating the entire country is definitely not an option, but with a couple of post I read and a mate of mine in Japan saying that the tremors weren’t as bad where they were, shouldn’t they be evacuating the parts that were worst hit to just other parts of the country for a short while? Surely that Baths law must give some form of a time frame for HOW LONG before the second impact could be expected? I am no scientist and perhaps (most likely) I am speaking out of my arse, but the thought of a second wave causing more deaths on that tiny little island way up there in the other side of the world… or do you reckon the worst of it is over now?
I read of those 50+ tremors after the quake… is that still happening or is that past now?
the minor quakes are still happening… the thing is is that the ring of fire causes all these earthquakes. People predicted that Japan was going to get hit by a major quake before it happened because of the pressure building from the tectonic plates. (They’ve also predicted that Los Angeles, CA is going to get hit by a big quake too)
To those of you in Japan, I wish you all great health.
It’s like an insane amount of aftershocks. So much in fact they stopped sending alerts. Just had two 4+'s back to back in less than 10 minutes. Other than that, just waiting for this to end, so people can get more help. I saw the first train since it happened this afternoon, so as soon as the trains start going, fuel/supplies can get to places and people can get the heat, shelter and hot food they need.
If you can donate, do it.
lol, I’d show up, but I eat a lot. And if your offer stands when this is all over, you might find me on your doorstep.
