To detect trigger between two prefabs which are not in the hierarchy scene via empty gameobject

I m trying to make trigger between two prefabs . And reference of public gameobject cannot be given to prefab .How to make it work .
Please help

Use Physics Layers. Quick example:

private void OnTriggerEnter(Collider other)
{
    if (other.gameObject.layer == 1 << LayerMask.NameToLayer("ExampleLayer")
        // Do something
}
