Hi,
I am looking for some good to do software for my team. What I want from this is that it is free or cheap and acces from anywhere (smartphones, etc…) do you people now anything? Thank you!
You can’t go wrong with Trello.com. There are some other options out there depending on your needs but I’ve found Trello a great place to not only have development todos but personal ones too.
Thank you for the tip!
Do not hesitate to give other ideas about organization software for game dev!
Let’s make huge discussion and share our experience!
How about index cards? I ran a team of 7, for several years, with just index cards and some word docs. We’d close tasks every morning as part of our morning Agile stand up meeting.
Gigi.
At my current job, we use Target Process for our Agile workflow (we have a Kanban-based system as well). They have a free trial with suprisingly few limitations.
There is something very satisfying about removing a sticky or index card when a task is complete. It feels very much more visceral than a virtual check off. One project I worked on, all or planning/meetings/standups were handled via sticky colored index cards, and a pm would enter that info in Jira later. I was a nice way to work.
Well, I think that this solution is the best way to keep your work organized. Unfortunately my team and I are still visiting school so we have to work mostly online.
That looks interesting, I will sure check it out!
It’s a good idea, especially as long as you have a team < 5 people. One lesson I’ve learned from using it for my project is that the Admin account counts as one user, though, so you really only have four teammates to really draw from as far as task assignments go. But, if you’re a 1-man show like me, that’s not something I forsee you bumping your head on (barring applicable psychological conditions. In that case, good luck.)
@Asvarduil: Are there any guide for Target Process? I am really struggling with it right now.
There’s Pivotal Tracker (it has an iOS and Android client). And there’s its open-source clone, Fulcrum.
For something simpler, I just make lists in Evernote.
During the days before smartphones, I used this really nice tool called ToDoList. (portable version)
Not really. Editing the workflows took me a couple of hours of my own time to figure out, because they make that process really convoluted, for some reason. Once I got past that, though, I was able to set up shop and get to working!
Why not just use evernote?
How about Jira? $10 for a ten person starter license.
Years ago, I had a great little to-do list app on my Palm Pilot. It was free, but I can’t remember the name of it.
I use GQUEUES which is a google service… runs in a browser… I use the free version to organize projects and keep notes etc. It lets you organize lists/tasks etc, categorize, etc… you can also pay for the full version to assign tasks to people.
