Toggle light intensity?

I’ve created a game where I want to be able to turn a light source on and off.
I created the code below

	public Light lt;


	void Update () {
		if(Input.GetButtonDown("lighttoggle")){
			active = !active;
			if(active=false)
			{
				lt.intensity = 8;
			}
			if(active=true)
			{
				lt.intensity = 0;
			}
		}
	}
	void Start () {
	}

Turning off the light source works just fine. However, being turned on again is a different matter. Any ideas?
