I just wanted to share with you the most recent project ive been working on. Im calling it Toon Team.
I have two aims with it:
1. Create cool, consistently stylised characters, just like those seen in great disney/pixar/dreamworks films and in valve games such as team fortress 2 and dota 2.
2. Build the characters in a modular way with maximum interchangeability, just like LEGO, so you guys can easily buy the content you want and make it your own.
The first outfit is on the store already : LUMBERJACK
I try to always offer regular updates with my packages, and this is just part of a wider series of characters, I want YOUR input to make it as good as it can possibly be.
My current plans for the project are:
-SET UP WITH UMA. I only just discovered this and it looks awesome. This is my first priority. If you haven’t seen UMA its just been released here: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/153689-procedural-character-generation. With this system I will hopefully be able to make my content as usable and efficient as possible.
-Make loads of awesome content. This content will work with many different body shapes, be fully customisable and im looking to you guys for influence of what to make! Ive got a long list of ideas already, but I want to hear more!
Looks great!!! If you’re looking for ideas for future characters here’s a couple…
Some kind of wizard or mage (possibly influenced by magicka?)
Monsters (maybe an ogre or skeleton or goblin or something)
characters with different body types. I’m thinking how most rpgs with a class system have different sized charactesr. This luberjack would be like the warrior so it would be cool to have a “thief” and a “halfling” or something.
Will the price of the package be increasing when more models are added?
I’m curious how the “lego” concept will work. Do you mean we will be able to switch out things like clothing? props such as the axe? body parts? Or do you just mean we will be able interchange complete characters?
Thanks for your reply!
Good ideas for characters- I will add them to my (very big) list!
The different body sizes will hopfully be achived soon with the use of UMA and a custom rig. Im looking into this now and will keep you updated.
The price will increase as more content is added, or I will create new packages with a similar price and amount of content, im not sure at the moment. The price is lower at the moment because its 100% where I want it to be technically, visually im very happy with it.
Anyway, did you know if you buy this package at its current price, you will get all future updates for free (just choose update in asset store in unity)? This is standard within the asset store. I will look for a way to get extra content to my early customers as well (i may just sent it to you for free) as a thanks to you guys for supporting me!
With the interchangeable parts, im hoping for as many peices as possible, ie arms, legs, head, nose ect, which will all HOPEFULLY be adjustable and swapable at runtime. Im not very technically skilled so ill be looking into UMA to help me with this. I really like LEGO mini figures, and thats the kinda inspiration for this idea.
Yeah, fair point, I totally understand.
Basically im happy with the visual style and quality, so that is not going to change. My plans just involve making the art more efficient and easier to customise in the future.
Its always going to be a mechanim powered humanoid character, so if you are making a game you could just make it work with a mechanim character and replace it later when this is more finalised. Also if you are very techy you could look in to UMA, its the system im going to use to do the customisation and its free http://fernandoribeirogames.wix.com/umabeta. One of my first customers of the lumberjack is already looking at implementing it for their game and plan to put my art work in later.
Wonderful UMA system !
Now I understand what you want to do and how it will work for future models.
Questions :
If we are buying the package of this character, we will be able to modify it !?! I mean not only clothing and props but the general shape !?! For example trnasform him into a woman or a child or others + adapted clothes ???
Do we have a general body shape, like the Genesis character from Daz, to morph and so on ???
Could you give us more infos about YOUR characters fro this one ???
Thanks,
6R
Yes. You should be able to do this at run time. Some very extreme modifications will require alternate mesh, but this will be controled by the UMA system.
I will update this page as soon as ive got something worth showing Thanks for your support.
