On Windows, there is a lot of unused space on the top menu bar:
It could be all placed in one line:
This way, there would be more space for all the Unity tabs and windows that need to be open.

A Window always consists of a title bar
(app logo + text) and a menu bar
. I don’t think that what you want is technically possible… or be even desirable. As you may know, you can create your own menu entries in Unity via the MenuItem
class.
This is not true, counterexamples:
Chrome
Visual Studio
Now I am not a windows app developer, so ofc I might be missing something. All I ask is to think about more efficient way to utilize all that blank space. In Unity, you have to have open a lot of tabs, every line counts.
About the custom MenuItem: I see the problem, I would align the information about the name and UnityEditor version to the right and hide/truncate it if there is no more space.
Unity uses the default windows interface for those menus, as you have pointed out one could use custom interface but what is the performance impact in doing so?
I would expect the performance impact to be something between nonmeasureable and none. But again, I don’t know.
I was trying new versions of editor and I like the change of scene tools being inside the Scene. Now I would argue that the first 3 lines of Unity editor should be combined into one line
From this:
If visual studio, android studio and many other programs can have it like this, Unity can too.
There are some layout challenges: Custom menus and long project name but I believe they are easily solvable.
I suggest investing a 4k display. You will have more room to add your content on screen.
4k display also allows unity to waste more space. I can customize the buttons of my ide in rider, visual studio, dcc programs like maya, zbrush, photoshop. I agree that unity should have a first party solution for easier customization. Examples would include a customizable palettes of buttons(ie commonly used features such as Player/Editor preferences, lighting etc), instead of useless Collaborate/Cloud integrations they keep trying to make happen.
That wouldn’t work for Unity, because there are scenarios when they wouldn’t try to shove their online services down our throats with a toilet brush.
Marketing > usability when it comes to Unity, always.
If anything, the threads where we ask for changes like this, they never bother to even answer.
Same with the Hub, marketing more important than usability:

no one from unity reads the forums except if there is some drama about them that they need to extinguish somehow.
That’s not true at all.
well prove me wrong then
I don’t have to. You are simply lying. You are here, on the forums and you can read the topics and threads, you can see that many Unity employees are here to communicate. End of story.
Why would you say something so hilariously wrong?
Most specific sub forums have devs specific to that feature/system replying regularly. Cinemachine is a good example, UI Toolkit another.
Probably no matter what someone says, there’s going to be blowback. And let’s be real, a lot of people here are incredibly harsh and abusive to Unity staff. The thread during the pricing update was a good example of some absolute disgusting abuse of Unity staff here.
That and they don’t likely want to say something that makes them or Unity beholden to said statement. Don’t want to make a promise and then your manager says “Yeah nah”.
In other words: Unity doesn’t give a flying fuck what the users want.
BTW, why are you implying that we’re talking about any one employee here? Because I’m talking about Unity and those “managers”, you are mentioning. They don’t answer to any suggestions, any problems we’re presenting. Unless it is inconsequential to BS marketing, then maybe.
where are they? post some links.
maybe because is true?
You can send me a post card from China with that hole you’re digging.
Now give me some reason why this proof is invalid. Because that’s what you’re going to do.
the proof is invalid because you are posting in a thread made in 2021 where an user suggested the improvement of unity interface and got ignored.
and with this my offtopic posts in this thread are done. if you want to discuss this more create a thread about unity staff involvement with the forum in the general section and send me the link.
You’re giving flat-earthers a run for their money by disbelieving the proof put in front of you.
