Signs of a dieing company .
I will poke around in that though …
With Visual Studio I can do anything !
@nestg - Much thanks for posting the link. Hopefully this helps continue growing 2D game development, regardless of tech choice.
@keithsoulasa - You bring up a good point about Visual Studio. We currently only have Visual Studio projects for 2008 and 2010. I’ll need to create a 2012 specific solution soon, just in case that’s your default version. That way you won’t have to worry about any project upgrade steps. Just open and run =)
Edit: Doh! I forgot to mention, this is Michael Perry. I didn’t use my standard name when I created this forum account a while ago.
It looks pretty interesting. I just wish there were some better examples of games done with it.
The new codebase does not have any games yet, but here are some recent releases with the older Torque 2D and iTorque 2D:
Space Pirates And Zombies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xpW1PGLVdnE
Are You Quick Enough 2: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/are-you-quick-enough-2-pro/id499494041?mt=8
Astro Slayer: http://garagegames.com/community/blogs/view/22061
S.P.A.Z. was actually received quite well. Released on Impulse and Steam. It’s one of my favorite T2D games.
However, the new code has been used on an actual development project. We did not design and develop in a vacuum. It’s not a game. It’s a super high level tool created for people who want to make games, but do not know how to code. It’s called 3 Step Studio: http://3stepstudio.com/
I assume this tool is going to be commercial when finally released? And why use this over, say, SDL or Allegro? Especially as the latter two support Linux (I’m one of those people who consider no Linux support a dealbreaker).
One will need at least $200 worth of Unity 3d plugins to achieve the same ease of use and functionality of iTorque 2d.
Feel free to provide a list of all the successful games released that use iTorque 2D. Go ahead. We’ll wait.
I think Linux is going to be a big request for the new MIT Torque 2D, much like it is for T3D. It was one of the highest votes for improvements, so I expect the same votes to carry over to T2D as well. I’m not the guy to talk at length about the plans for 3SS. There is another representative for that. I’m focused on the core T2D technology.
This list has not been kept up to date, but here is a start: Made with iT2D
Johnny Vo has also been posting stats for his latest release: Are You Quick Enough 2 In Top Ten
And these are just what get reported. User do not have to notify us when they release a game, so I know there are plenty more out there. I could start digging through my e-mails, but I don’t think that would be productive.
What does that have to do with his statement?
He was knocking the ease of use and functionality of Unity in the Unity forum. I don’t agree with his statement. I think the number of completed games says something about easy of use and functionality.

BTW, I paid for IT2D way back when and and still pretty sore about it.
As for being sore about your purchase, I’m sorry you did not have a positive experience. I really do not want past mistakes creeping back into the new version of T2D. If you want to post a list of problems on our blog, or here, I will do my best to make sure T2D will be a better experience.
Thanks for the offer but I’m pretty happy with Unity 3D.
Fair enough. If you change your mind and want to provide feedback on the new stuff, you know where to find us =).
Yay\o/
Unity is freaking awesome for 3d,but we never had any cool thing for 2d dev(at least not for free hehe)
Is there any plans to opensource the discontinued XNA Product (torqueXNA I think was the name?)
You know, I’m not sure. I know anyone who owned a TX product earlier has been given access to the community edition repo, but I believe that is private. I guess it’s ultimately up to Eric Preisz and the owner of GG.
Not at this time. The XNA has some code in it where the licensing didn’t necessarily transfer to the new company when we changed ownership 2 years ago (the paper trail on this particular license to distribute is questionable). Anyways, we don’t want to post something as open source unless we are actively developing with it and because of that licensing issue, we aren’t actively developing on that code base.
i am a ex-unity3d-fan, possibly i am now a torque3d-fan, i not make 2D games, only 3D but if torque2D is like torque3D (easy to use, powerfull and free) and the plus feature for publish to IOS this is a great notice, when torque 3D can publish to linux and macos and torque2D can publish to android the world of the game development will be change, i would be like a free or commercial addon for torque3D (well and for torque2D) to publish to consoles. (i say that would be commercial tool because if i have a successful game project for PC is easy pay for port the game to consoles). Well, is complicate talk about other engines in this forum but is a happy moment for 2d game makers, i not make 2D games but sure i will be play many hours with this engine, and finally thanks to the people of garagegames for open their tools.
