Trade Secret - Destroy. Salvage. Survive. (Unity 2.5D Platformer)

Hello Unity Forums! I thought I would show you a game I’ve been working on with the rest of the Trade Secret Team.

Trade Secret

Trade Secret is a 2.5D action platformer set in a post-Apocalyptic underground civilization. The game is playable in a browser and supports up to 4 players in cooperative play. Trade Secret features a unique Z-axis transition mechanic that allows players to explore levels that are beautifully rendered in 3D, while keeping the gameplay in 2D. Another innovative feature is the game’s tinkering system that allows players to craft custom armor and weapons. As members of the Sons of Salvage, players are seeking to reclaim the surface and must work their way up through the five tiers of their subterranean world. Their journey will force them into confrontations with a varied assortment of enemies – human, creature, mechanical, and hybrid, as well as diabolical traps and puzzles. Trade Secret is powered by Unity 3D to smoothly deliver exciting gameplay, dazzling graphics and stunning sound.

The concepts look unique and the early images show what look like high quality production value. What stands out to me the most is the particular shader/texture that is used in game. The image of the character sheet/inventory proves your team knows how to set the artistic theme throughout the game. I will definitely keep my eye on this.

Edit: Actually i just found the link to the main site. Trying it out now.
Double Edit:  i will just come back for the full demo release

Thanks for giving it a look! Sorry about the early demo still being up on the site, we’re doing some bug fixes right now before we upload our alpha build. The game has been in development for about a year, reaching a team of 25 people. We have a few artists on the game and decided early on what art style to use (I personally like the cell shading very much).

I apologize to anyone on the forums who might get mad for my first post being a promotional post. I just thought you guys might like to see what my team is working on and we are trying to spread the word before GDC. And no, I’m not a PR guy, I’m actually a Level Designer / Sound Technician on this project.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to try out game out, we really appreciate it.

Thanks for checking it out!

Tried, looks well made but I stopped at the first desk: clicking around didn’t unlock the character so I couldn’t proceed :frowning:

Thanks for the feedback megmaltese! Did you get any errors when this occurred? Generally speaking, if you press the Inventory key (I), or the Blueprints key (B), after doing the shop tutorial, it should let you out. Did it give you any tooltips to exit the menu?

Only a yellow box flashed bottom right of the screen.

Very cool stuff. Do you have a zipped build somewhere to download? Unity’s web player always seems to take forever to load.

Unfortunately karl_, our game is built with the webplayer in mind. As it stands, it is web only. In the future, we may be able to offer a standalone. How long is it taking for it to load? If you wouldn’t mind, please take the survey when your done!

This game takes over 5 minutes to load on a 60Mbps connection.

So its obviously not hosted on a very fast host or its bandwidth is saturated.

Sorry about that gentlemen, it appears we are getting a few more hits than our website can handle. I will see if we can speed it up at all. If not, I will let you know when the bandwidth is available.

Put it on kongregate?

It could be possible to see Trade Secret on Kongregate in the future, but it is not in our immediate plans.

The webplayer doesn’t seem to load at all for me. (Normally I can run unity web games just fine). Not sure what the issue there is.

Would you mind trying again? If it still doesn’t work, could you post your browser specs?
This is the first I’ve heard of it not loading, so I like to know more about the situation if possible. Thanks!

I got it to work in Safari. It still doesn’t work in Chrome. Firefox is working now but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t working last time. I’m running a Macbook Pro

Well, I got it to work after a hefty load time. Neat stuff. My biggest complaint is that I found the camera movement to be a bit jarring.
