transparent RGBA PNG textures worked in 4.6, how can I get them working in Unity5?

I had a number of textures exported from Photoshop as RGBA (RGB+alpha) 32 bit PNGs. The worked fine. I had selected “Alpha is Transparency” in the Inpector.

Now in Unity 5, they expand pixels to the edge, and no longer exhibit proper transparency, even though it previews properly. What is the solution?

changed shader from “Opaque” to “Transparent”. Duh.
