trees conforming to terrain

can i make the trees i scatter on the terrain conform to its angle, and not always show up with it’s local Y pointing up?

No, but trees only grow straight up (toward the light) anyway.

So what if you deform terrain at runtime… will they still be pointing up? Yep, unfortunately. Any idea how to solve this?
