Trees move when getting closer with camera

I have created a forest with terrain editor and I have used a flythrough-script to create a camera path. When moving it the scene, the trees stand straight when they are faraway but when getting closer they move so that they are perpendicular to the ground (terrain). Is there any way to prevent this to happen? This problem especially takes place when trees are placed on a slope.

Cool! Make a video of that effect… Use Jing or something

Here is a video that shows the effect.

that is the trees transitioning from billboards to 3d geometry.
change the lod distance setting on the terrain options

Thanks for the tip. I tried different settings and I got it working when I set the bilboard distance to zero. Anyway, this would mean that I don’t use any 3D geometry at all.

Is it possible that there is something wrong with the terrain or trees because 3D trees do not stand “correct/straight” when standing on the slope?

How about setting the distance high as opposed to low. ie the trees change to geometry at a greater distance from the camera. Obviously you will get a performance hit, but the transition will not be as noticeable.

It is a performance gain for the terrain and the billboarding effect is normal.

Matt.
