Well… I THINK I like this product, but it’s hard to tell. I got the trial loaded and looked around for about an hour and then the trial expired the next time I launched it??? Maybe I misread the trial length and it said 30 MINUTES and not 30 Months (just kidding). I tried to email the 2 emails in similar threads with this issue, but my email bounced. Firstly I would like to at least try a tutorial or 2 before I take the plunge and buy this product. Secondly, I have some serious reservations now since my very first experience has had licensing issues with the app. Is there some kind of license server that is going to turn my product off? Will I be unable to transfer my license to a new computer if I buy an upgrade? As a developer myself I certainly encourage and respect the need to protect intellectual property, but this experience has raised some concerns for me. I may get spammed to death for doing this, but since my email request for help bounced I can be contacted at haroldhannon@hotmail.com. Also, to the other users here, have you had licensing issues in the regular product? And to the manufacturers can I get a better idea of license particulars and procedures? Thanks for any information in advance. The 30 minutes I had in the app LOOKED good btw, but I really wanted to do at least one of the turorials. I have been doing that with all the products I’m considering. I really want to pick the right tool.
i’ve never had any problems with the purchased version, though i’ve heard of some people having this happen with the trial. i’m sure the unity guys will get back to you shortly have it sorted.
welcome btw ; )
No and no.
Nope. I do believe I read about another user having the “expire instantly” problem, but I can’t remember the details. Not sure if the problem was Unity-specific or not, but in any case, it’s rare. The developers will do everything they can to make sure you can run Unity.

Thanks for the reassurance!!! I just had these images in my head of working along and suddenly the app denied access. That could be majorly frustrating, especially if you were really on a roll. Good to here it’s just the trial. Hopefully they will contact me and I can get a good working demo to look at. Thanks again for the input!
I think I know the root of this problem. My airlink was not connected to when I installed Unity trial. Later the connection re-aquired to my wireless router here. I’ll bet OS X sync’s date time online. That would mean that if it was slightly out of sync when I installed and the time changed while online it might trigger Unity to think that I changed my date/time. If I were to have implemented the trial protection code I would have assumed any change to the date/time would be an attempt to circumvent me and expire the license. Am I close??? Anyway, maybe an actually “countdown” type expiration that doesn’t rely on the calendar would clean this up. I’ve seen it to where you allow 30 days of use for a trial rather than actual calendar days. Then you can track time in a ecrypted binary somewhere and use kind of a programmatic “stopwatch” to elapse the time. Anyway, I’m getting WAY to in depth, but I thought maybe some more info on how to recreate this issue might help the devs. I would LOVE to prove the test case out, but there’s no way I’m re-installing osx and all my apps and then installing unity with airport disabled and then turning it on to see if the time adjusts and then kills unity trial. Maybe if I had a second machine

You must be hitting one obscure bug in the trial protection software; sometimes the trials expire too early. No worries then, usually just dropping a mail to david at otee.dk gets you an extension. I have no idea why this email would bounce on you though. Anyway, check you mail, I have sent you the new serial.
No.
No worries there either. Each Unity licence can be run on several (3 I think) machines (they still must be used by a single person). If you upgrade more, your machine gets broken etc., just drop mail to david at otee.dk, we’re not draconian with licences
Anyway - welcome and good luck with Unity!
Nice service: Results in less than one hour.
And if you haven’t heard back from David (I know that he’s had a busy and a bit crazy of a weekend), or if issues like this come up again you can feel free to write me at tom -at- otee.dk.
I have exactly the same problem with the trial version. It expired after the second launch. Don’t know why this is happening . It’s really irritating cause I would like to try this program before I buy it. But most of all I hope it will reach my expectations cause I’ve heard many possitive comments.
I hope it will reach my expectations
it will.
I ran into the trial expiration bug with two different versions of Unity (1.5 and 1.5.1, I think), but I decided to go ahead and buy it entirely because Joachim showed it to me at the WWDC game-interest lunch break.
I’m pretty happy with the choice so far - the indie price is quite reasonable, it’s the only product I know of that gives me full Mac support and a web player, and the support and community are great!
yep.

Remember that you don’t have to go by your gut feeling. Either email david at otee.dk or tom at otee.dk, and they will be able to send you a new trial key to re-enable the demo.
