I grew fond of the dark gray GUI of Unity Pro’s trial version. Why can’t I change the settings on the free version? I try to change the color preferences, but nothing happens.
Because it’s a Pro-only feature.

Then I’ll have to live with it. I can understand most restrictions, but this…it’s just silly.
Unity Tech had to license the dark grey from Crayola. You can’t have it for free!.
Licenced…a…color? Please elaborate.
That was a joke…

Here is an in-depth technique to hack the dark colour into to unity! I hope I don’t get banned for this mods!
-
click this link > https://store.unity3d.com/shop/
-
select unity pro.
-
click proceed.
If done right you will have hacked unity pro and have the dark colour again! Of course unity will hack your bank account in return, but I think its a fair exchange!!
Cheaper option is to turn the brightness down on your monitor…way down!
Haha, nice one! made me chuckle.
If you’re on a Mac, you can totally hack a dark skin by pressing ctrl-option-command-8:
Of course, every color on the screen is inverted, but hey! It’s a dark skin, who cares! (Personally, I’m really glad they made it optional…)
–Eric
Damn, such hax.
I think I’ll just stick to the color inverting (using the magnifying glass on windows) to get a dark skin at night; until I get Unity Pro.
2011 was a good year.
