trigger an event ONLY during a specific while an animation is playing

That’s pretty much it. I need to run a script I have written ONLY during certain parts of an animation. The animation was done in Max, so I don’t think I can use Unity’s “Animation Event”? Is that true? I would appreciate ANY help on this one.
