I have just been a forum troll around here for a long time now. I haven’t really been able to come up with anything in Unity, just because I’m too lazy. Don’t expect any hidden game dev. or anything else. Sorry, but its true… . bye.
You couldn’t come up with anything in Unity because you’re too lazy? Dude, if I had Unity I’d be trying hard as hell to make a game or two. But maybe that’s just me.
I guess my question is why did you get Unity? You had to have had an idea to do something with Unity at the time you got it. Or did you just buy it one day to never do anything with it?
I have a Unity license but can’t do anything until 2.5 comes out for Windows. Then I’ll be off to the races working on games and such.
Guys, please understand that the OP is a kid, I mean like pre-teen or early teens at most, so he’s in a different situation than most of us here.
@boomaster: that laziness is the luxury of youth, enjoy it while you can. When you’re not so lazy, when you have some ideas, when you’re ready to dive in again then we’ll all be here, still plodding along and doing our thing.
Troll was a good film. Troll 2 wasn’t as good.
I am also fairly young (14) and can’t use unity much because I’m trying to get all these damn art assets done and I keep having import problems…
Of course not, it didn’t even have any trolls in it for crying out loud.
I mean I’m too lazy to learn any coding languages. I can show off little widgets to my friends, or have some fun every once and a while, but after the quick burst of simple development when I bought it, my inspiration has run dry. I guess I still have yet to beat the learning curve for Unity. And yeah, I am only 11 years old by now, about 1 year with Unity on my computer dock. I do enjoy watching what everyone is doing with it though. Thanks for Unity guys! Later.
Hey boomaster. Why not playing Fusionfall. It is done with Unity. A good game for young people. Maybe will this game give u inspirations to do something.
And dont worry about inspiration. When i was 11 i did absolutely nothing. You at least try to make something
Good luck
I started coding in BASIC when I was 10. HTML/JavaScript when I was 11. I know exactly what you feel like, especially when you have an idea and don’t know the means to make your dream a reality.
Stay with it though, if I had Unity when I was 11…whoo. I’d be much further ahead than I am now
boomaster when i´m lazy and can´t do anything i browse gaming websites watching screenshots and videos of good games, that gives me inspiration/motivation and i start thinking in doing something i like, maybe that can help you
Agreed. Though it did have the best peeing on the table scene in any film.
The Stuff + Soylent Green + Turkish Star Wars = Troll 2
NILBOG IS GOBLIN BACKWARDS!
Were the two movies even related? I was under the impression that Troll 2 wasn’t actually a sequel so much as an entirely different film given a name to sound like a sequel.
 I can’t believe this thread.
It’s full of win!
Here are teh code languages that i know:
1)HTML (some, but enough)
2)Javascript (again, some, but enough)
3)some UNIX in mac application “Terminal”
and thats just about it, so…
i have a tough time getting things done. If you look at some of my other threads i got very VERY cheeky. id ask for people to do all the scripting for me, and with no reward or payment… Maybe my Unity-using is coming to a minimum, BUT i promise that I will pick it up sometime sooner or later!
I’d say the positive here is that you recognize you were cheeky, and feel close enough to this community to come clean. I can’t speak for others, but, from where I sit, no worries. We were all young… once
As for lazy, well, you have a lot to learn. It’s not easy to pick up a programming language and tools without the logic theory. A co-worker asked me how he should go about learning Java programming a couple of weeks ago, and my response was this, when you aren’t doing it every day, the best approach is to start with a language or tool that gives you some immediate results. It’s much easier to keep going if you can accomplish something quickly and build on it. Now, Unity isn’t as “raw” as Dark GDK or Torque, but it’s not completely point and click either. If you have Windows, I’d take a look at FPS Creator (not to offend the fine Unity folks at all), it’s intended for your skill level, and has a very simple control language that might give you a chance to explore some of the core game control logic concepts without the “clutter” of a full language.
Working with computers is a passion or a sickness (I still haven’t decided). You’ll find you have more or less interest as time goes on. When I was your age I was deep into computers (I even taught Intro to Comp Sci 100 at the college at age 11, amongst other things) but 2 years later I stepped away from all that and didn’t touch a single computer for 2 or 3 years (except to play a game from time to time). Interests change, at that time I discovered something else … rhymed with swirls as I recall
As has already been said, enjoy every moment you have now, being lazy later in life is a rare luxury.
Cheers,
Galen
boo, even if you don’t have the gumption to do the grunt work now, if you are interested i’d still always be thinking of new ideas poking around here on the forums. one day inspiration might strike you’ll find there’s something you can’t stop working on : )
the first thing that pops into my head when i think of troll is sonny bono : )
wow someone else saw that movie too! (yogurt from hell! ; )
yeah, i haven’t been productive on my laptop for a while. I’ve been the neighborhood geek that everyone asks for help for a long time, but no one needs help anymore really, so…
if im not a Unity programmer than im an artist, but my Maya projects never import correctly, so am i a story writer for game ideas? im starting to wonder why I got into this, but I’ll do something good with it eventually.
I watched Troll on YouTube yesterday. It was better than I expected, but that’s not saying much.
My mind was blown: it had Atreyu from the Neverending Story playing Harry Potter.
