Trouble building to older iOS device

Hi there,

I have this iPod touch 2nd Gen device that I’ve been using as a test device for a while but since i have upgraded to the latest SDK I can’t seem to build to it.
The iTouch’s software version is 3.1.3, and the lowest Base SDK i can build with through XCode is now 3.2.

Seems strange that it doesn’t work because I thought people were still building 3.0 versions and uploading to the app store.

I’d like to keep this one under 4.0 so I can at least test to see if it works okay on the 3 OS…

Any Ideas?
Thanks
Pete

set base sdk to 4.0 and deployment target to 3.1.3

Awesome, thanks!
So the Deployment target will set the minimum iOS the app will run on?

Correct… Everything MUST be built with SDK 4 to be allowed on the appstore, but you can still target as far back as OS 3.0

You’ll still get fast app switching, etc.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Just one thing though on the subject of older iOS’s. I guess it would only get me into trouble submitting an app with 3.0 support when the lowest iOS testing device I have is 3.1.3.

How do you manage that, since you can’t install an older iOS on a device?

They will tell you

Though there is no reason to target 3.0 anymore actually.

The stats already 2 weeks after 3.1.3 release have shown that over 90% of all devices were running 3.1.3, with large parts of the remainder on 3.1.2 and < 2% spread over os2 and os3.0

after all the 3.x updates are all free (unhappily even the 4.x thus the mass of trashed 2nd gen devices)

That’s what I’m afraid of

Do you know what the adoption % of iOS4 is?
