Trouble Importing .3ds files

First I should say that I’m a NOOB to Unity. I recently downloaded a .3ds model from TF3d.com. Inside the folder there is aother folder marked “textures” and three files with the following extension: .3DS, .fxb and .max. I was under the impression that after I drag the files to the assets folder in Unity that it would take care of the conversion. Everything seemed import ok except when I dragged the imported file into my scene the model was lacking any textures. What happened? As I said I’m a NOOB so go slow. Thanks!

Berfore importing the models , import the textures.
Only if unity finds textures that matches the matrials unity will asigne them.
After that you can import your model and unity should find the texture for the materials.
Keep in mind that some file formats can only be imported if the corresponding applications is installed on the machine.
