Trouble with importing Maya model with texture

So I have read so many tutorials and troubleshooting of others but still no damn luck! I am trying to import my bed model into the game but every time I do, the textures would not show up, and also my blanket won’t show up either (The one I made with nCloth)

Here are the steps I took.

Method 1.

  1. In Maya, save as .mb into (Standard Assets/Maya Assets)
  2. It created the model file and a material folder with materials inside.
  3. Result . . .

Method 2.

  1. Manually drag the .mb it in Maya Assets
  2. Drag all jpeg UV maps for the model in the materials folder.
  3. Results . . .

Another question, if you can see the model in Maya, I want some sort of lighting that can come from the cracks in the back frame of the bed, like along the straight round, hard to explain but sort of like this? How is this done?

bump?

This happened to me once in a while. You just have to click that little arrow to open all meshes included in your ( i think ) fbx, then select them , go to the inspector and dragndrop or select ro textures there in the material attribute. Or, if you just have one material/texture, just click your fbx and dragndrop your texture from the “Material” Folder

mm… wait what? I didn’t understand the instructions well enough. I clicked the little arrow to expand all the things that makes the bed, then went on the inspector, and I couldn’t drag any textures on it.

Hi,

I’d use the approach given by asd234w4r5 as well. I believe it is a good suggestion.

First, see where the FBX files are (after imported), then apply appropriate materials to these FBX files.
Lastly, create a prefab containing all these information.

Further info, you may want to visit Walker Boys Tutorials. They give good guidelines in importing and preparing prefabs.

Yeah I want to follow the instructions but I can’t seem to understand how to lol. I am like a super noob in Unity when it comes to importing, inspectors or whatever terms used. I would need like a step by step detailed like teaching a baby lol. I would be much appreciated, but I will take a look at Walker Boys too, thanks for the suggestion.

Strupan,

Don’t be discouraged
Unity is a big universe in itself. Take one baby step at a time, when you fall, then get up again quickly. There are many helping hands in this community.

The tutorial that I suggested you take you through some most important things that every Unity developer need to be comfortable with. If you don’t understand the jargon, that’s fine. Keep on listening. Soon it will click in your mind.
