trouble with UV's

hi all,
im having trouble with UV’s. when i put a texture on a plane (square texture on a square plane) the texture only maps halfway across the plane. its the same for unity’s primitive plane, as well as a procedural one, and its the same for any texture. i would have thought that a square texture would map across a square plane perfectly, but am I wrong?

Look at the material you’re using, it has a scale set on the texture property.
