As someone new to Unity, one of the biggest advantages as opposed to going with something like Id Tech or Unreal is the Asset Store.
That said, almost everything costs money, which is fine, but there is a lot of crap in amongst the good stuff. Many of the $100+ plugins have zero reviews, and that’s a lot to drop on something just to realize it doesn’t work!
Some kind of “try free for three days” system, or “try it out in a Unity sandbox” type system would make everybody 10000% more confident with their purchases and give them a chance to try out similar ones. It would also incentivise asset creators to put out the highest quality work possible as they know people can’t just buy on a whim.
I seriously think this would be a huge advantage! Thanks!
There are many products that have free demo versions, but probably less than 5% bother to make them. I agree that the more expensive the assets the more necessary it is to have a demo/entry level product.
But such a thing wouldn’t be store-wide. It requires a developer’s initiative.
I would like to see some kind of maintenance in the shop. There are old stuff, which doesn’t work anymore and there is latterly no support from the developer. I burned a few 100 bucks this way…
I make it a rule to not buy anything with no free version and not at least three 5 star reviews with text. Unless I already trust the developer based on a previous plugin. Or unless it’s a 90% off fire sale
This would really help! I want to be able to try a visual scripting asset and learn it before buying it. Some are harder to use than others. I want to see if the asset is any good for me before buying it as I am very very cautious when buying things on the asset store. If this feature is implemented, I would probably be buying lots more things than right now.
