Tutorial for MMORPG game.

Hey guys.

I’m new in Unity world.

I have one question, is there any completed tutorial for creating mmorpg game? I see on youtube videos for that, but most of them are not completed, maybe you know some pages about that topic which can help me with creating mmorpg game?

Thanks. Merry Christmas

just…dont!

your best advice. start small.

here you go try this:

There’s a reason there’s no finished MMORPG tutorials. I don’t think there’s any finished Unity MMORPGs. MMOs are best left, for the most part, to AAAs and large, experienced, funded teams.

Apparently you can make an MMORPG with the asset I just linked to above “Atavism MMO Creator” although I don’t know of anyone who actually completed a game yet with it. I imagine one can build something very basic with it, but if you want to add more custom unique features, you’ll need to code that yourself.

Make a small multiplayer game first and then if you figure out all the networking, you can move on to a larger game. There are plenty of indie MMO’s, although most are not AAA standards and don’t hold 100’s of thousands of players. I agree with others that you should start small, but if you want to do it, then you can. Go to the teaching section of the forums and find some tutorials for MO’s and/or RPGs. Check YouTube for tutorials. Whatever you do, don’t ask for help here unless you say you are making a multiplayer game or an RPG.

Once you get a bunch done, networking, world, some stuff to show, then make a thread. That is what others do that are making MMO’s here.

Didn’t someone just post a meme about just this?

(It was me)

There was a thread some time ago concerning it. I believe @Teila was one of those that had purchased it. If I recall correctly most of those who bought it were disappointed.

I think your picture is wrong though. What you should have posted was a picture of a person posting on the forums they were making an MMO and then a bunch of Unity developers pounding their fist and pulling out their hair. They are the ones that get frustrated. Bunch of drama queens.

Not sure what this is referring too but if you mean Atavism, yeah. It is good if you want a simple game without a bunch of changes. I know some good programmers who struggle with making changes. So for a kid, yeah, go for it. For a serious developer/hobbyist, I would say you will only get frustrated. It is also still missing some crucial parts that were promised a long time ago. On the other hand, I think the developers just overestimated their skill and the time it would take. When it is completely done, which will be a while, it might be okay. I would wait though. We wasted a lot of money. :frowning:

If you’re new, then you are simply starting too big. You need to learn the basics of Unity before you can embark on the path of multiplayer let alone an MMO. Also you may want to consider an engine that is specifically designed for MMOs such as HeroEngine and BigWorld as they will handle the really difficult aspects for you.

Yes, I was referring to Atavism. Nice to know it’ll work for some projects.

Step 1: make pong
Step 2: get it working over a network
Step 3: have multiple games going on over the same network and on screen next to other people playing pong

Pong mmo

Don’t quote me on that. It is yet to be seen since I haven’t really seen a finished game from there yet. Closest is the game the Atavism developers are making, and they are way ahead of the kit so not a good example. I can’t wait to see some games from them though and I hope a few releases help them to succeed.
