I have been trying to do the Lerpz 2d & 3d tutorials for school. I have no problems on the school computers, but when i try to load the scenes for these tutorials at home the material/mesh associations for all game objects in the scene are missing. For example, now I'm trying the 3d scene, but all that appears in the scene or game view are the fuel cells & cameras & lights, but no platforms, skybox, etc... The ship is visible in the scene view, but only as a gray object, and it's inspector view says "missing" for both material slots (in mesh renderer and mesh collider). The same is true for every object in the scene, all material slots say "missing". I had the same prob with the 2d Tutorial, wound up having to use school computers. I've reinstalled/redownloaded everything, no luck. Island Demo scene loads fine for me. I'm running windows 7 64-bit. Textures are all available in project panel, i.e. I can add LerpzshipAO texture to ship's mesh renderer material slot and it works, but to do this for the whole project would suck! FYI when i first open the project, i get a message "this project was created in an older version of unity, updating may take a few minutes", don't think that should matter tho.. If I select a level geometry component in the hierarchy panel, such as firstFloatingPlatforms for ex, and use f on the scene view to frame, it frames to a spot, just nothing visible there but the move tool, and of course all materials are missing in inspector as i said, point is objects are all in the scene it seems, just no materials... I see someone else posted a similar question in February, still unanswered.. PLEASE HELP!
i recommend re-downloading the TUT and when you do DON'T Open a scene from it in another project. in stead just open it from inside the assests
hope i could help
Success! thanks pathkiller for the suggestion, that didn't actually work, here's what did: I downloaded the tut on another computer with unity installed and opened the scene TheGame directly from assets as suggested. It opened correctly. I then closed Unity and copied the project folder 3dPlatformTutorialStart to an external drive and brought it into my computer, and again, opened the scene file directly. FINALLY, it opened correctly. Don't have any idea why....
I had this same problem. I got it to work by extracting the files after downloading them, then opening TheGame directly from the assets folder. It said importing assets then all of the objects appeared. I hope this helps anyone who encounters this problem. I think that the problem was that it was trying to open the compressed file.
I have the problem also. Everything in Unity 3.3f4, about a dozen projects - the scene objects are missing their materials... Please tell me that this can be fixed. They were working OK yesterday!
