Hi.
Until now, I only worked with 2D stuff. I’d like to be able to make simple 3D things by myself, but I didn’t find any tutorials about this. So for example there is this image here:
If I put this on a sphere I get the look of a basketball. I’d like to be able to do something like that by myself, but I have no idea how I can get from this 2D image to the actual mapping. Are there any good tutorials (video / literature) about this?

Honestly, it is easier for me(maybe not for everybody) to do things the other way. I’d rather make a nice UV map, and then make an image based on that, preferably painting it directly on the model in Substance Painter. The whole moving UVs to fit images works best on simple cubic models, like levels maybe, but anything organic/curvy is going to be difficult to make fit an image easily. There is nothing stopping you from using an image to help paint once you have the UVs done, and in fact this is quite common. I do it often when painting models, including directly on the model in painter, but it still applies to 2d painting on UV maps.
