Hey guys (and girls ofcourse),
I’m currently working on a school project in witch we have to recreate a building with showrooms of a company.
The whole building should be able to be fiewed online in the browser so whe have to make sure that we wont use to much poly’s. But the problem is that when you zoom in they do have to be pritty high poly. So we figured that when you are zoomed out you won’t see the models in the chambers until you hover a chamber, then the moddels in this chamber will fade in.
Now comes the problem, when you’re zoomed out you see these ugly shadows on the floor and the walls, so my question whas if its posible to have multiple light maps and swich bitween them.
If somone has another good idea youre welcome to help me to ofcoures
Greatz,
Peter
Since… you are working with “multiple” models, I would have 2 sets of models, one, a room that is furnished, and nicely built, the other a unfurnished room. When you are in a room, you get the furnished, high poly room, when you zoom out, the room remains so… until you move your mouse over another room. Then it swaps.
This fixes your light map problems and makes your rooms easily swappable. It also reduces the overall presentation of polygons to something more manageable.
I would make the swap over not happen unless you are at least 50% out from the closeup view.
You could script the camera 2 ways. stock outward view, then when you are close in, you could have a mouselook camera, Monitor the mouse button, if it is clicked, zoom back out.
Lerp the position and rotation in and out and you will get some smooth transitions.
So youre sugesting that I should cut my building in saperate rooms? Would it olso be posible to copy the building and place it far away from the real building and then do the lightmap. And then when you play I could place the empty building on the same position of the original building and then swap bitween them?
And about the zooming in etc, I’ve already build the complete navigation itselfe. But thanks for the tips.
