UA 2008 Jeecheereen 1 - Contest Build

My adventure game, Jeecheereen 1, is now basically complete. In it, you control a nanoscale robot and explore the inside of a larger (though still quite small) robot.
There is still some work I want to do on it, but it is mostly done and can be played through to the goal, hopefully without encountering any significant bugs.
I estimate that the game should take about an hour to play from beginning to end for the average player.
There is also an online walkthrough to help those who get stuck which can be accessed through the game itself.
I am still very open to comments and criticism, so please send them my way!

Nice feeling to the game but got stuck after going thru the fan and trying to put the key into the lock thing, Tried all 4 keys twice but nothing worked - prolly doing it wrong. Shame cos I was quite enjoying it.

Main character has a few issues when walking down a ramp if you turn around and try and go back up the ramp when it clearly does not want to do that - kinda hops around one one leg

Like the background music - fits nicely

Thanks for your feedback, Steve.
Sorry you got stuck, but did you try the online walkthrough? It is accessible if you click tap and choose “Options”. The right key can be chosen if you look at the motor lock on the wall next to the elevator shaft at the back of the platform - place the right key in the key shaft (behind the control) and then turn the handle on the control and it should work… If you did all that and it didn’t work, it must be an odd bug I never encountered in development so please let me know.
If you did not do it that way, you can play again from the point where you came in through the fan door by choosing “saved game.”
I’ll look into the ramp issue and see what is going on there.
Again thanks for playing and letting me know your thoughts!

what about the pc users? :frowning:

ekeak, here is a zip of the web page version.
Please let me know if you have any problems with it as I have not been able to test it on a pc myself.

Cool game!
I like the puzzles but I find the navigation confusing at times . Sometimes I dont know how to leave a screen, and I get disoriented a lot .
I think you should keep the 180 degrees rule to avoid the disorientation (when not intentional) and to use a fixed place for exiting from “zoom in” back into the room.
Hope this helps .

Yuval

Thanks Yuval for playing and the feedback. Maybe adding a “return” cursor would help? So that when the mouse is over the object that sends you back that cursor shows instead of the “clickable object” cursor. Then again, now that I think about it, I probably could add the ability you suggested more easily than I had thought. So maybe a combination of both so that either way works for the user.
I will try to fix that up before the final release.

Very interesting game. Though, I also am stuck at the contraption after the fan, as previously mentioned. It appears that the 4-pronged ‘key’ should work but it doesn’t, neither do the other 3.

Hmmm. I was afraid this might be a bug, but I tested it on the build I submitted and it works fine here. Maybe you are missing a step? You have the right key, but you need to place it in the shaft behind the control box and then turn the lever on the control box. When you do, the box’s light should blink blue and the elevator come down. Is that not happening? If not I can’t understand why that would be different from machine to machine but having two people run into the same issues suggests there’s something weird there…
Thanks for letting me know. I’ll try to get a chance to test the game on other machines soon.

Intuitively, I was attempting to place it in the corresponding hole besides the door as a mouse-over icon activated on it. I hadn’t even noticed a mouse-over above the switch on the console itself.

I see. That’s a relief then. The mouse over on the part on the wall is so that you can see the shape key you need. Hope you enjoy playing on from there.
