UA 2009: Dixie's Journey To The Mainframe

This game is based off the game Kiki The Nano Bot so if you have played that game you will have a better idea what I am trying to do with this game.

Team Name: Mem Dixy

Member Name: Clifford Peters

Game Name: Dixie’s Journey To The Mainframe

Game Description: This is a 3D puzzle game with relative gravity (blocks fall down relative to the player) where the goal is to reach an exit floating somewhere in the level in the fewest moves possible. In order to reach the exit you will have to push blocks onto different walls and build block towers.

Technology Used: There is a built in level editor so users can make their own levels. They will then be able to save their levels or export them to a text file.

Number Of Players: One

Target Distributable: Standalone

I was able to do a few more improvements before the beta deadline so I have released a new beta version. I cleaned up the menu a bit, fix a few bugs, and hide things that got in the way when trying to play the game.

New version released.

I have now got all of the blocks working properly and added to the level editor (Laser, Electric, Power Entity, Unpowered Exit). I have yet to make any new levels with these blocks as part of the solution but you can always make your own levels with the level editor (if you make any good levels you can send them to me so I wont have to make them all on my own). My next goal is to make it so certain tiles can only be placed in the level once (so that you don’t have 12 players on a level, sure it would make the game interesting but I want practical puzzles, not crazy puzzles) and also getting the block conditions working (such as the Stationary block condition, which makes a block unable to be pushed).

For fun I added a screenshot of the exit being powered by Electric and Laser blocks (yes it could of been done with just one laser block but then you wouldn’t be able to see how the electric blocks look).

Final version released.

I have changed the way the level editor loads the files which has caused a significant decrees in loading times. I also used the Combine Children script on the cubes that boarder the level so that also helped in speeding up the game. Right now there are only three levels (which I made today) but I plan on having more levels in latter releases. I never did get the two goals done that I said I was going to in my last post (oh well).
