UFO Game [WIP]

UFO Game : I kind of like the ring but it might change.

Controls

W- up
S - Down
A - rotate left
D - rotate right

LMB - fire lazer gun - destroys everything except guns/tanks
RMB - fire lazer cannon - only destroys guns at the moment

Object of game

Destroy the Nukes, and any Army Units that stand in your way. You get points for destruction too, but killing civilians detracts points.

Cool start.

I’d add to the To Do List:

  1. Move camera back a little off of the UFO, so you can kind of see more of it. It doesn’t have to be centered on the screen, but where it’s at is "uncomfortable.

  2. Tilt the UFO along with input, to make it seem more dynamic.

  3. Add a reticle. It would be best to have it “in-world”, since where your shots go is dependent upon where the mouse cursor is.

  4. One-word: theremin. (Google it, if you have to) :wink:

Deffinately take that stuff into account. I did have some tilt, but it would loop the player around, think I need to make some anims for that instead.

Theremin would be great for sounds :wink:

Looking for crits on everything. Not sure, I think I like the greyscale super low poy thing. But that could change.

pretty sick mate, graphics could do with some work, give it that 70s comic feel. The explosion should be larger and more immediate, also you could do with a few that say Pow, Splat, Capuey, Blargg and so on lolz. Some cell shading wouldn’t go a miss on this and possible a throttle control so as you can speed up/slow down when about to attack or be attacked. If you drive over a civilian they get sucked up vier a beam would be a nice feature 2 that way you can get points from people as well as lose them. Some basic crowd noises in the developed areas and some outdoor sounds for the more rural parts would also be sweet. Title screen looks good, but it could do with some brighter colors and thicker outlines, should give it a more Mars attacks feel. If you really want a challenge you can have jets fly in from in front launch missiles and pull up, you then have to dodge the missiles as they fly past you, will give it a more full feeling rather than you dominate the air, they have the ground static feel.

A lot of that is on the to do list, going for that retro ufo thing for sure. Hadn’t thought about speed controls, but it is a good idea, would probably be a bit more immersive / Shift toggle?

Thought about helicopters, but jets might be easier and a cool effect :wink:

I started using the cel render, but it’s a bit sloppy. I’m getting tired of scripting so I’ll probably tighten up the graphics on level 1 a bit next. I’ll just paint in most of the cel shading, then model in the major stuff like building outlines.

sounds good man, that painted cell shading can work wonders, seen some pretty epic stuff done that way. Shift toggle would probably be best but some times it can become a problem on web browsers and alike as it activates sticky keys.
