UGS Analytics beta: event parameter functions gone from Data Explorer?

Hi!

Firstly, thank you for the new and more robust Analytics service! It has been long-awaited!

We are testing out the new service and immediately found a possibly frustrating issue: Are the “sum”, “count” and “average” functions for integer parameters gone from the Data Explorer or is this due to user inexperience? We used these a lot in multiple reports with multiple metrics and events in legacy analytics. It was easy and fast.

Now it seems the only option for even a simple sum or average of an integer parameter is the SQL Data Explorer. Is this intended?

While the SQL Data Explorer is a really welcome addition for complex queries and investigations, this would mean that most of the reports not dealing with only the basic metrics would always have to be generated in the SQL Data Explorer, and would therefore make the report generation cumbersome and even inaccessible for users not familiar with SQL.

Hi Paljan,

Thanks for the detailed feedback on the new Analytics beta. We are working hard and adding new fetaures regularly, so its great to receive feedback, it helps us to build the features you want to use

Your suggestion to provide aggregates on SQL Explorer chart measures is one that we are already aware of, but I’ll add your voice to the request. You are quite correct, it is possible to achieve in SQL Data Explorer, but not everybody is comfortable in SQL.

Thanks again, we’ll be sure to post updates in the forum as we release updates. Please continue to let us know if you run into anything else.

Great news!

Am I missing it, or could there be some sort of roadmap or planned features list in the FAQ or in a separate post where one could check if something is already considered or planned?

Hi Paljan,

Thanks for your feedback. We have just introduced aggregations on a per user level in the Data Explorer and are shortly going to be tackling the aggregation functions on parameter level as you mentioned.

We’re working towards being more transparent with our roadmap, I am hoping to have something to share soon.

I’d be interested to hear about your experience using our product and share some information on what is coming next. If you’re interested, you can book some time with me on this handy Calendly link. If you can’t find a slot but are still interested - let me know and we can arrange something else.

Thanks,
Clare

Is Aggregation for parameters in Data Explorer still in roadmap, or is it dropped ?
Since the only thing we can do is counting and filtering Events occurrences, it seems very limited.

Hi LeToineDelh! You can see the analytics roadmap here: https://unity.com/roadmap/unity-gaming-services/analytics-player-engagement - unfortunately the promised parameter level aggregating has been dropped down to “planned” so still no idea when it may actually be implemented. I suggest you use the SQL Explorer for now.
