uGUI and GPU usage

I’ve noticed that our uGUI canvases use 7-9ms on the GPU. That seems rather high, doesn’t it? (I’ve got a 2017 MacBook Pro with AMD 560.)

I’ve gone through and ensured that Pixel Perfect is set to Off on all canvases. I’ve also followed the guidelines for optimizing uGUI to prevent excessive dirtying (per a section of a Unite video and also here now: http://warlords-destiny.com/Enviro_Documentation.pdf ).

But what’s really odd is that, during runtime, if I disable the uGUI parent, the GPU usage obviously drops to zero for it – but then remains barely above zero when I re-enable the GUI parent. Why would that happen, and does that suggest something I can do to optimize the GUI properly?

It’s happened in 5.6.3 and continues to happen in 2017.1.
