UI colors are wrong in Linear mode

I submitted this bug under 5.0 but since UI bugs are generally being ignored in 5.0 reports, I wanted to make sure someone was aware of this in 4.6 since it is apparently still broken there as well. Colors in the UI, including bitmaps and font colors, display incorrectly when in Linear color mode instead of Gamma. A few people have reported it but no one got any response, and I don’t know if anyone submitted it specifically for RC1:

If someone from Unity could acknowledge they’re aware that would be cool, or if someone using RC1 could verify it’s still there and submit the bug again that would be useful. If there’s no traction I can download RC1 and install and resubmit but I’ve already got three versions of Unity running and I don’t want to add a fourth just to submit this bug again. :wink:

Well UI bugs arn’t being ignored in 5.0 we’ve just been a lot slower at getting to them as we need to get 4.6 done first :). There is also no need to use the latest when reporting a issue was QA will always verify it with the latest (although its usually nice if you do just in case it had been fixed).

But yes we are aware i just dont know the plan for fixing it as i have not yet gotten to a bug about it. I also dont see any bug about this assigned to the UI team so i’m not sure if it just got put to the graphics team or what.

Its good someone at UT knows about this. I was getting worried watching so many versions get released without a response or fix.

Dang, RC3 had like 5 bug fixes and this still wasn’t one of them. It must not be affecting many people. Though its a severe bug for those that are affected.

yea once we hit RC we started to only do critical fixes. this might get fixed in 5.0 or for 4.6.1 but still no promises

It should definitely get fixed for 5.0 since you basically have to use Linear mode with the new shaders. I foresee a lot of people posting “Why are my specular highlights giant white circles” and then Unity saying “Switch to Linear mode” and then all those people wondering why their UI is now broken. This is definitely a critical fix for 5.0. The only reason so many people use Gamma mode now is that it’s the default and looks ok with the builtin shaders. In 5.0 the new shaders look quite bad in Gamma mode.
