UI Navigation

I’m very new to Unity (I’m using the trial version, and working my way through the 3D platform tutorial).

I’m using a one-button mouse, and finding navigation around a scene to be a complete nightmare. My current frustration is that I am trying to position a particle emitter correctly. What I need to be able to do is to orbit around the emitter so that I can check it from all angles. The problem is, the ‘orbit’ doesn’t seem to be an orbit at all – it simply rotates the UI camera on the spot. I’ve tried using a combination of this and panning, but it is nearly impossible to maneuver correctly like that.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting which I am missing?

  1. Select the particle system
  2. Hover the mouse over the scene view
  3. Hit f

Ah! Thanks. I knew that ‘f’ would centre on the object, but didn’t realise it would also centre the camera orbit. Excellent.
