Unable to open existing 2019.2.2f1 project in 2020.1b4

I downloaded 2020.1b4 and want to upgrade my current 2019.2.2f1 project. However when I open the project via Unity HUB it shortly displays a screen and then closes without any notice.

Seems that it crashed while re-importing. Any clue what is up here?

what happens if you open it after removing the packages folder

Could you please submit a bug report for this issue?

I deleted packages to no avail.

I submitted a bug report via the Unity hub titled “Unable to open existing 2019.2.2f1 project in 2020.1b4”. I did not see a ticket number.
