Hi all. Im unable to open a fbx file in Unity 4 which i imported. I converted the .dae file to .fbx using fbx converter and when i imported it to Unity 3d and try to open it message is displayed as
Unable to open Assets/xx.fbx: Check external application preferences.
Can anyone have any idea why im getting this issue?
That’s some kind of easy question for a difficult task. There could be so much, that did go wrong. Is it a fbx converter from DAZ Studio directly or some kind of free tool?
A very long time ago when Maya 2012 was brand new it was using an fbx version that was newer than the importer for Unity. I spent a long time trying to figure out why, when the fix was just changing the version of the fbx exporter down 1 year! Not sure if that’s it but might be something to look in to.
I used the fbx converter downloaded directly from the autodesk website

No, that’s not what I’m saying. All I was saying is that when I had my issue, it was because the fbx exporter was a newer version than the fbx importer for unity. Look at the settings for the fbx converter you have.
