In the current project I’m working on its also possible to go underwater in some cases and I really want to make this a little bit more realistic. I’ve been searching for this for hours now but I just can’t find anything and I really don’t have any idea how I could create this effect, I’m not really experienced with effect. These 2 effects would make an underwater scene much nicer looking and I think there are more people who would like to have these effects
well first try to use the sun shaft, if you have refractive surface with bumpmap, sun shaft should go through water, but I don’t think the results would be that great. Another thing is to use billboards to create those god rays you are talking about, then add a scrolling noise to timing with the wave itself.
I’ve already tried the sun shafts, I’ve actually turned them off since I went under the water for the first time… The results of the sun shafts look really strange because I need to render the scene with 2 different camera’s to clear the water out of the ship [click].
No problem if that doesnt work, you can always look at the asset store i believe there is an volumetric light solution there, but careful how you use it though.
It creates tilable and loopable caustics, free version up to 9 frames i think, you can then use that on a projector to get the desired effect.
The lightshafts are a bit more tricky.
the alzheimer lightshaft system could give you similar results, but they wouldn’t be animated tough.
But if you didn’t need a second camera, wouldn’t the built-in Unity sun rays work fine underwater? I’ve seen posts claiming they wouldn’t, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t work.
