Due to technical problems, we have closed the PollDaddy voting poll and started one here in the forums. Thanks to HiggyB for fixing problems in the forum that prevented me from creating a poll here in the first place.
Okay this is ridiculous. Last hour we have over 35 new user here in unity forums and i’m not going to point any names here but one of us just went over 40 votes.
This happened the last time we had a contest like this. Somebody (I won’t name names) posted a link in a number of non-unity forums and dozens of people ended up joining the forums here just to cast their vote. I really think this is uncalled for and very unsportsmanlike. After all, these tutorials are intended for the benefit of the Unity community and people who only join just to cast a vote (if in fact they are individuals and not just one individual) are not part of the community. I feel sorry for those people who invested considerable time and effort only to have their chances of winning on an even playing field dashed by someone who chooses not to compete fairly. As someone who has been here a couple of years, this sort of thing makes me feel like my vote is completely worthless. If the mods let this continue I for one won’t participate in any future polls. Just my 2 cents…
This is just ridiculous. This is the second time TimViana gets alot of votes all of the sudden in a short time. It’s also a strange coincidence with alot new people joining.
I demand action, I want a fair contest. I’d say you judge the tutorials yourself Armagon.
It’s really a shame in what this contest is ending up in.
I agree with those above, it would be much faster and much easier to just find a panel of judges. Just ask some of the forum moderators, or some others that are uninvolved with the contest.
I don’t want this to be an “I have more friends than you” contest…
I guess this is the appreciation Armagon, the UT folks, and the entrants get for putting all the work into the contest.
Wonderful…
P.S: I would personally like to thank Armagon for the work he put into this contest - the odds haven’t looked good for me in either of the polls( ) but the tutorial was fun to write, informative, and I hope to help others out with their programming.
I also agree that polling doesn’t seem to be working… Its a great contest, and I think the best way to have the contest end fairly is to just get a panel of judges.
There’s plenty of ways to prove this is not right. The only thing that seems fair to me at this point is using one or more judge(s) (even just Armagon would do) or removing entries that are not participating fairly.
Even though this situation can be expected on the internet, I would not have expected anyone to go this far here on the unity forums.
Armagon, I’m very sorry you get all the burden for volunteering to organise this.
Kudos to Armagon for organizing this contest and to all those who participated. I really think this was a great idea and the contribution to the Unity user community has been excellent. FWIW, I had a hard time deciding which tutorial to vote for as I thought they were all winners.
I wonder if it would be possible to change the settings in the forums so that someone wouldn’t be able to vote until after they’ve posted x number forum posts (x being a number greater than 1). Or perhaps set it so that someone’s membership must be at least a week old.
I can’t recall how they decided to fix things the last time this happened, but I believe that in the end nearly everyone was happy with the final outcome.
This is ridiculous. I’m very sad to know that there are people asking their friends, that probably don’t even know what Unity is, to vote for their entry. This is dishonest, immature and a complete lack of respect towards all other contestants, the Unity community and the sponsors.
I will disqualify Tim Viana from the contest due to the obvious lack of consideration and professionalism. If, once again, we experience some sort of problem or fraud, i will create a board of judges to decide the winners.
I think that only can vote, if the people have your account in Unity Forum at some considerable time.
because some peoples are voting but never opened the Engine Unity.
