According to the documentation, The default unit of measurement in Unity is meters. I’ve set up a 3dsMax file to work in meters. When I export the max file into unity, the new file comes in at the wrong scale. Object scale is listed as 1 for a cube that was 1m x 1m x 1m in max. I create a cube in unity and put it next to the exported cube and the unity cube is almost twice as large.
Does anyone have experience exporting from max to proper scale? I’m using max 2009 and the FBX exporter version FBX200611.
Perhaps you only set your Display Unit Scale to meters?
At the very top of the Units Setup dialog is a button to go to yet another dialog called System Unit Setup…
1 Unit = [1.0] [Meters]
…this is what actually sets your scene scale. Display Unit Scale is purely for your benefit while modeling, so you can use measurements you’re familiar with…
I’m a 1000% sure this is your problem as this has been a VERY common problem with our artists having not double checked their sys units and submitting characters that are WAY to large or way too tiny.
Also, after you import the object, rt-click to get its import settings, and change mesh scale factor to 1.0. It always seems to bring it in at .01, regardless of your Max settings.
