Unite brazil

Dear UT folks, thank you very much for such very useful and delightful day here in Brazil.
Thank you, and please… Let’s do it again next year

fo shizzle!!

I’m wondering… why there are so little posts on brazilian topics, I’m mean… there were so many people on the event!

Yeah, I noticed most people there was students and not really Unity devs. Yet
A few are devs and had Unity Pro on their notebooks, but I guess those don’t participate with the community too.

Unreal engine is still very present in pp’s heads around here hahah

We use udk at school… I hate it. Seriously, the epic guys act like they care about the indies but they don’t give a damn about us… Were you with someone there? I was forever alone. lol

Yep, was there alone. My business partner couldn’t go.
I hope from now on devs around here stop running around Epic; just like you said, Epic don’t really care at all.

If wasn’t for the maya, zbrush, topogun and cia. I already have quit the course, I hope my teachers don’t see this but, It’s really sad hearing the students asking them how to make this and that and then the teachers answering that they need to find the right scripts and edit them, then open that frontend thing and cook the codes, if there is something wrong you need to find the error, fix it, and do it over again… this is so primitive that even 3dgs is easier and efficient, nothing against who uses it because some people are more familiarized with this workflow, but… this is painful!

Hah yeh I used UDK for a while - it has it’s advantages, but as a programmer the constant need to recompile code was an absolute nightmare. At the time it didn’t bother me, but that’s because I hadn’t used Unity. Now I’m slightly afraid to go back.

To be fair to Epic, they are addressing all of that in UE4 (though when/if those changes make it into UDK is up for debate), iirc they say you won’t need to recompile, it interprets the code on the fly like Unity does, and they are going to include debugging changing the scripting language to straight up C++ instead of their own. They are playing catch-up, but, at least they try

And, I forget to say about the asset importing… that really grind my gears, you need to keep reimporting, I KNOW, I’m kinda… spoiled by Unity features, you know, make the changes you want, save aand, done…

Oh God, how much I want these, only these two things, I’m here asking myself if I will make my final work but seeing how the udk is now I don’t think so, I saw the videos of the new editor, pretty cool! I also saw that recompiling on the fly with that solar system scene, amazing. I used to care too much about graphics, that’s why I always wanted to use unreal, back when I wanted amazing graphics, there wasn’t a udk, an open udk, unreal was pretty restricted, but now, I don’t care about graphics, I just want to finish a game, and I don’t think I can do that with the udk, at least not alone like I was able to do in unity, also the unity graphics are getting better every day, buuuut, until june of next year if they implement these things on udk (the “indie udk”), who knows, but I’ll stick with Unity after I finish my final work… no doubt…

BTW there will be any videos from unite brazil?

thanks in advance
