First, gratz on 2.5 release UT, very happy for you guys (and not just because now I hope we can soon get fixes to known memory leaks (physx I’m looking in your direction) and stripping (@!#^ horizontal slider!) bugs!)
Regarding 2.5, I’m assuming this to be the case, but I just want to be sure before I download it:
Since Unity and Unity iPhone are two separate applications, it should be fine to install Unity 2.5 alongside my Unity iPhone (in two separate directories of course), right? That shouldn’t cause any incompatibilities or brokenness?
Additionally, if I wanted to use 2.5 to import FBX files with it’s
feature, I should then be able to open those converted files in Unity iPhone, is this also correct? Or should I not mix/match projects/assets between the two?

P.S. And thanks again for a terrific product - above mentioned known bugs notwithstanding, Unity is by far the best (esp. for rapid prototyping/iteration) middleware/engine I’ve ever used professionally: beating out Quake3, Renderware, Gamebryo, etc.
Hmmm… I’ve downloaded Unity on Windows, but when I try to activate it, it says that my activation code isn’t valid (Mac OSX). Does that mean we aren’t allowed to use Mac and PC as cross development platforms (just would make things loads easier to test assets, as I build them in 3DS Max)…?
No, that’s not what it means, we’ve repeatedly stated that cross-platform use is supported.
The issue here is that you’ve likely installed on two machines already and thus you cannot install on a third. If you want to migrate hardware (uninstall/decommission one machine in favor of another) then contact us at support@unity3d.com and we’ll help with that. You’ll need to uninstall from one of your existing machines first, then contact us with your serial number indicating you want to move to a new machine and we’ll update things on our end and get you sorted.
Unity desktop has no iphone graphics emulation which will make even basic testing impossible
both have different optimisation and capabilities not present on the other. The most important if you want to get anything running nicely in general context is occlussion culling on the iphone which is only present there.
