Unity 2.5 not importing assets

So I just downloaded the trial version for Windows but it always crashes when it tries to import assets. It chugs too if your going from one window to the next. Why?

Haven’t noticed any chugging on the multitude of laptops (~900mhz Centrino - 2ghz) or desktop (2.6 duo core), XP Vista.

What type of asset(s) are you trying to import?

More details, please.

I dont plan on developing with the Windows version since we have the Full one on a Mac computer that my team uses, I just want to test my Maya models and animations before passing them off to the lead designer/programmer. So I downloaded the trial for Windows. It just freezes upon trying to import the asset. I even tried just dragging them into the folder, but now Unity just wont open and just freezes with the Unity opening picture.

Im on a AMD atholon dual core processor. 1.9 ghz Laptop.

Will you please go to Help->Report a Bug an submit a bug with your Maya file? Please also list what version of Maya you are using. When you have submitted PM me with your case #.

Latest Unity freezes allot for me too. I merely try to resize a window or click on an item, and the program and mouse locks up for up to 40 seconds. Is difficult to force quit.

Maybe my imported file is too big or complicated, but it freezes when I’m not even changing anything.

Would running on 2 Gigs of RAM be a problem?

No.

Oh, OK. Ive PMed you the case #.

Would it be because I am working on Windows Vista?

thats hopefully just a joke, right?

2GB + 3D Dev + Vista = nogo

Vista64 + 4 - 8GB of RAM + 3D dev = much better and realistic.

Reason: 2GB + Vista32 = at best 1GB of RAM for all your apps, so skip the idea of ever using firefox again and alike

I know. Im poor though :-(. Anyways I try not to use any other programs when I’m doing my work. Waddyiya mean about firefox?

I have solved the problem thanks to the help from aebrahimi. I guess the problem is that I was using Maya 7 to import stuff from. I exported to fbx and the file imported fine. The programs still chugs along though, especially now since I am test playing the thing.

Firefox has a very broken resource handling. after a few hours of using it, you are commonly at 500 - 1000MB of RAM usage for firefox which is a total killer for your system.
