Unity 2020.3.36f1 - 'Hold on...' forever.

Hey folks,

I’m fairly desperate here. I’ve experienced this issue in the past, on multiple occasions, where Unity just seems to ‘ProjectBrowser.OnGUI.repaint’ forever. Other people have seen infinite imports and such, but the problem on our side is the same.

Now, however, I cannot get into the editor at all. I’ve deleted my Library folder and reopened my project through the Unity HUB, and still it sits indefinitely in this repaint.

My project is nearly done, this isn’t something new, there’s no new plugins or anything drastically different. In fact, I was running the game a few times testing some things on the server, not even client side, and all was well. One of the times I put focus back onto Unity it started the usual reimport/repaint thing it does, but this time it never ended. Since then, I haven’t been able to get into my project!!

Besides deleting the library folder, what else can I do to fix this and get back into my project?!

Thanks for any help!

The simplest workaround from what I can tell is to simply open the PlasticSCM app, relog in, then close it and open Unity as normal. If you don’t want the PlasticSCM app on your PC, then open a new project in Unity, log into your PlasticSCM account there, then close and open your main project as normal.

This issue is specifically a PlasticSCM issue, but since it’s owned by Unity, I imagine there’s either already a fix out there, or one is coming soon. If not, if it’s sitting in a bug list or something equally unproductive, that’d be a real shame…
